Do producers use ready made synth loops? (pg. 2)

No no no, its not Ejay we are working with ^^

I often make synth loops of my own and then come back later and use them as samples, long after I've lost the original arrangement.

It's kind of cool, makes you focus in more on stuff like effects and filtering, since you no longer have synth parameters to work with.
Nick Cenik
Nah, I don't use 'em.
Stephen Wiley
I make my own. What in the world is the point of using synth loops and construction kits? Music is an art and I don't see anything artistic about taking another persons work and writing your name on it.

Once you learn how to properly apply FX and get a "pro" sound out of VSTi generated tones, building synth loops is fun, fast, and effective. For beginners, I'm all for them using loops of all kinds to try to get a feeling of how things work and gel together. I don't think people should build their production philosphy though around this method once they've learned what they're doing. However; if they use loops their whole life you could argue they'll never learn how to do it themselves.

One thing I have found synth loops useful for is extracting their groove in Ableton and applying it to various midi tracks. Sounds weird but you can get some pretty interesting results.

eh i'm pretty sure everyone here made a "loop" to use later on other productions, but it's fine using loops from packages, when Airbase told that he used loops a myth was gone.

I don't really use them often but they do work for some old school stuff, especially if they are sample heavy tracks, they're sometimes perfect.

If it works, it works. If it doesn't, it doesn't. Simple.

I sometimes spend ages ing around with making my own sounds only to drop in a loop as a reference and find it sits beautifully.

I will use a synth loop if I actually want it to sound like I've used a loop - as Rann said, being deliberate about it works for certain styles/genres. Usually these will have heavy processing and FX.

Basically I find these easier to stutter, glitch and mangle because I have less of an emotional attachment to them than my own material. Not to say that I don't also do it with my own - anyone who's heard my older tracks knows that I do it plenty - but I've always felt a little freer with off-the-shelf crap. You don't spend an hour cutting cheese into perfect cubes just so you can melt it onto some macaroni.

I also sometimes - use them sparingly as filler. Used to do it more often, but never completed stopped.

Anybody who features a synth loop (or a perc loop for that matter) among the most prominent elements of a track doesn't deserve to call himself a producer. What are you producing? You're more like a mashup DJ who's figured out how to use a sequencer.

If you're just using them to round out a mix, though, I see no problem with it. It's sort of like throwing some frozen spinach into your ravioli filling vs. just boiling it and slopping it onto a plate. The former is a valuable and virtually unnoticeable shortcut in a process that already requires a ridiculous amount of prep time; the latter is bland, lazy and limp.

7 Skies used a single synth loop, But it's not a wav loop , it's a preset from Predator.
108 Seq - Free Moment. Introduction bank.
It really sounded like a pluck riff in Caffeine , but maybe he just ripped the melody off or tweaked the preset , no idea.

Even professional cooks will use prepackaged stuff sometimes, and as long as the food comes out well nobody is the wiser.

This is EDM. The entire genre is all about ripping off others via sampling.

Sure - as ingredients. Not the main course. When was the last time you got served Chef Boyardee at a swanky restaurant?
