ok. my review :)
First 15 mins. Kinda, meh. Nothing that jumps out to me totally.
17 minutes, like this tune. Reminds me of the tidy two stuff from the start of the last decade, stuff like stimulator. More melodic and I enjoyed it.
Guessing the next tune is by Lab 4 since it reminds of their sound, but who knows :p I'm talking 22:30 onwards... Nice melody at 24 mins onwards. I'm a fan of hard dance like this. Next tune is good too, melody wise. It's catchy. Not a fan of the voiceover of it.
Now I'm at um. 30 minutes. Just for reference so you know what I'm talking about, which is unlikely, since I'm a dirty pom.
33:33. Nice again. It's building steadily into a good 15 minutes of tunes.
another 6 minutes or so and I don't notice the tune for being outstanding but the mixing is tight and definitely well done. 44:20 isn't my kind of tune, reminds me of someone but I don't recall who, used to make a lot of tracks like this....
heh. u got 2 let the music sample. neat :D
50 mins. like the chord changes on this one and the underlying acidy tones.
kinda, filler after that for a bit for my tastes. Not a fan of the vocal effect at 64 mins. I'd like an instramental of it i think.
70 minutes in. , my head hasn't listened to this sorta thing for ages. must resist urge for drums & bass :o
, this last track is heavy. very heavy. Nice bass!
Overall I've enjoyed it but felt it peaked at about 55 minutes. It's given me the urge to get some old cd singles out & throw a hard-dance/house mix together, which I'll torture you with when done :p
I'd say 7/10 :) |
Thanks a lot Ian for having a listen and taking the time to post a detailed review. Obviously you're a fan of the more euphoric and melodic stuff. I hadn't done mix playing this kinda stuff for a long time and probably won't do another one for a while but used to be a hard house maniac in the late 90's before getting into hard trance and trance in general, so it was good to get back to playing similar music to that which really inspired me to dj in the first place. I like mixing it up a bit between euphoric and the dark and dirty stuff, just my style of mixing I think. I'll definitely take a bite if you do end up putting up a hard-dance mix. :) |

| I've been listening to a bit of '00 Sentience/BK/Phil Reynolds type stuff the past month, so I'll take a look at this. |

I'm so hung over I nearly took painkillers today, and I have a decidedly persistent case of insomnia, despite a mere six hours sleep last night.
Just started listening. :gsmile: |

This felt like a railroad spike being hammered directly into the centre of my aching brain. A sexy, pleasure-inducing railroad spike, that is!
While in the past none of your hard dance mixes have really hit the spot for me, this was awesome. As always, the cheese was present, though this time it was only deliciously stinky, rather than overpowering.
The mixing was my favourite bit - those sharp cuts and previews of the incoming track at the end reminded me of how much I used to love hearing Chris Liberator work a mixer. I liked pretty much every track, too. Naaice work.
Oh, and I've also emailed this to a friend with the subject line "RUDE", which is our code word for bad-but-oh-so-good music like this. |

Was awaiting to read you thoughts on this as I've found you have pretty refined taste in this kind of thing and aren't easily pleased which is a good thing! I've actually been buying heaps of old hard house records recently from a cheap bin at one of the stores up here. Cheers for listening and glad you enjoyed it, probably won't be doing another cheesy hard dance mix for a while so feel free to spam it around, it's appreciated.:D |

I'm glad I listened to this. This set was MEGA. Holy , man. Great job. There's a slight tinge of cheese wafting through the air every now and then but no overly ridiculous cheddar melting all over the tracks like a lot of hard trance lends itself to. I thought the mixing was great, and the flow was 100% face-smashing the whole time. Loved the more melodic ones in there, and a few of them with the rolling basslines. Oddly enough, the last track didn't do it for me. Excellent set though.
Thanks, man, your mix helped me get one of my assignments done! :p |

Thanks mate for the nice review, glad it was of some assistance to your assignment. I know exactly what you mean about hard trance being overly cheesy these days. I don't dig for the stuff nearly as much as I used to because of the fact, but now and then I'll pick up enough to put together a neat mix. I wish I could record a set done with some of my vinyl but I need a new soundcard at this stage. |

Loved the energy of this mix.
Awesome work.
I'm not usually a fan of the Hard Trance style but the bassline got rolling and heard some hints of acid, good 1st half.
2nd half is where it's at, love that Karim tune! This is my kind of Hard House, takes me back to my old rave crew in Wellington haha.
Thanks again mate

Cheers mate. I've picked up a few old Karim/Do Not Bend and a heap of classic Tripoli Trax records last week. I'm a sucker for the old style of bouncy hard, real hard house!
I'm pretty surprised this thread's got to 3 pages, especially nearly six months since I initially posted it and it being hard dance.:D
I've also put it up on soundcloud and have included the widget in the first post for anyone who's interested that may have issues with other file hosts. |

Thanks again Sean. Electro house.....hmmmmm, not really if I'm honest, I delved into it a bit maybe a couple of years ago but really felt it wasn't for me. Kinda moved more towards deep, tech and progressive house. If you can recommend me artists or labels worth looking into I'll have a crack at putting something together. Something different to my norm so it would excite me in that sense. |
