Lethal Industry by Tiesto (Calvin Karass 2010 Remix) by Calvin Karass

Yeah, I know, I know... It's Tiesto and it's been done to death, but I felt like it ok.

It's nothing special, just wanted to let of some creative steam. It's a fairly full on pumping rendition of a track that probably has 1 million remixes.

Had to do it, now it's done he he.

cheers

Though I have never been a big fan of the original, I like it. I think the reason it works is that the familiar elements of the original aren't used much until about halfway throguh the track. Your remix is not simply a different sounding version of the original.

hey man! you always wanted to do this track?

dont mean this in a bad way. I think you should've not used those remix parts and made your own and this would be a SWEET original.

you did a nice job! drive sounds good here :)

Thanks for listening.

It's actually a weird combo of all sorts of crap. The vocal sound in the background is from Smack my bitch up. One of the drum loops is Marco V's Godd and there is a sample from the mmorpg Anarchy Online.

When I remix I usually only keep what I think people will recognise and re-write the rest.

I don't think I've ever heard one amateur remix of this where the main melody is transposed rhythmically without any errors, haha. Just nitpicking, but rhythmically one or two notes is out of place.

The kick sounds a little muddy near the end, and I think you could have done more with the bassline instead of keeping it on one note for the whole song, but it's not bad as far as Tiesto remixes go.

Like it a lot, the pad melody underneath the melody from the original really adds some euphoria in the breakdown, sounds epic! The lead synth you've used for the melody sounds gorgeous too, especially played on its own. A really bassy pad int he breakdown would have gone down a treat, and would love to hear you really let the filter on that midrange pad go to create a warm trebley climax before the drop comes.

Only thing I didn't like was the clap, thought it stunted the drive of the track. I hear the prodigy sample, fits in beautifully! although with your knowledge of mixing I'm not surprised you have a good sense for that. realised I wasn't following you on SC yet, outrageous!

I'm not aware of the original so I can't be swayed by any preconceptions!

There's certainly plenty of drive in the track and the lead (which I assume is the Tiesto part?) fits in very well.

I think the mix could be improved in a few areas but mainly the stereo width as it does sound fairly narrow (is that your DJ DNA thinking of the mono compatability? ;) )

Personally i'd add a bit more reverb here and there and take a look at some of the mid/high EQ settings but most importantly the track works as a whole.

Head bangin' stuff :)

You are right, it was indeed the DJ DNA that kicked in. Just hate it when you have tracks that don’t work in the club environment because of a stereo image that hasn’t been thought through properly. But in this instance I might have held back a bit too much.

I am also aware that the mixdown itself has some issues with the high end stuff as it’s a bit hissy, but as it was just an opportunity to let off a bit of creative steam, I didn’t feel to sort it out. Actually quite surprised by the amount of downloads that this has received, didn’t think anyone would be interested.

Thanks for listening guys.

I did have a listen to this yesterday, but I found it very hard to come up with something worthy of saying. This isn't something I enjoy these days, so please forgive me if my feedback isn't great :p

One thing I noticed about these Lethal industry remixes is that they all have the same replicated lead. Did you consider adding a completely fresh lead altogether? It would help your remix to stand out amongst the rest.

The breakdown is quite thin in contrast to the rest of the track. I think the lead could maybe have more lows. I warm pad would also help, IMO.

The track has okay energy, but not enough is happening for my tastes. The bassline and percs don't seem to vary enough. Hard-hitting, fast paced percs would work really well here. You just need to work a little bit harder on them.

All the best.
