Latin: This word comes from Lazio - the region where Rome is located, therefore, Italy MUST be a latin country. All countries that speak a neo-latin language is a latin country (except for those in Africa where people were forced to speak these languages even though, they're not ethnic latin...)
Maaz' concept of Latin countries:
In Europe: Portugal, Spain (except for Euskadi), Rumania, France, Italy, Andorra, Monaco, San Marino, Vatican.
In America: All countries, except those that have English or Dutch as official languages.
Funny thing... I've got Italian blood and I'm latin :D |

First of all yes italy is related to all these countries like spain and portugal linguistically but culture and lifestyle wise i would say we are more disconnected. Second when you see an italian you don't call him a "latino".
Oh and why call those countries in south america "latin" when we can't call the ones in africa latin? how do you know whether the people in central/south america were forced to speak spanish or not?

Culture from Spanish and Portuguese coutries are not that close, you know? "Latin" is just a way to get all these distinct cultures together because of their past.
Differences between Africa and S. America:
Unfortunately, most of those who lived here before the europeans came were killed :p If they were alive, they wouldn't be latin :rolleyes: Most of my ancestors were latin (Portuguese and Italian).
As far as I know, most of Africans have no spanish/portuguese/french/italian blood, do they? If they do, they're latin as well :D |

| yeah they do...there some countries such as angola, umm mozambique were colonised by the portugese/spanish. Hey also what is now sri lanka was a portugese colony too. You wankers were everywhere! :P |

We need space :D The fact is that most of those who live in Angola/Mozambique aren't ethnic latin. There are some white people, but they're a minority, aren't they?
I don't want to keep arguing because I know you're a cool person and this discussion won't take us anywhere. The fact is that I'm listening to Yoji Biomehanika's "Look @ the heaven" for the fourth time in a row and I just can't think properly anymore :D |

we're not arguing, well i'm not i am just discussing :P
but the thing is there are black people in brasil right? they're not ethnic spanish people, yet they are considred latin... how? the same thing goes with black people in cuba..they are considred latin yet they are not ethnically spanish...
the point is. just make a forum for spanish/portugese speaking countries, or south america/spain/portugal.
personally i want a forum for Italians :D |

The fact is that if we keep talking about it, soon this will become a thread bashing the USA (no matter what, every discussion seems to end talking about it :D ). Let the others speak a little too
