Stopping Ableton Automation from Resetting after Recording?

For instance:
-Channel gain is set at 0dB.
-Start recording.
-I automate via midi controller down to -inf.
-Stop automation.
-Automation is recorded but the point after recording has the gain jump back to 0dB.
Is there something I'm missing that will keep all recorded automation parameters at their positions AFTER I stop recording?

| Right click on automation line, and uncheck "lock envelopes". |

| They aren't locked. |

Can't be done AFAIK.
Just delete the one breakpoint where you stopped the recording. |
