DVS and controllers and PC at gigs

Say you have a bunch of controllers and a laptop and you DVS discs and what not and you have to play a gig.

The gig only has 2 TT or CDJs and some random mixer.

I used to think, just grab my CD wallet and go.

But now all of a sudden I have all these things I can do that really adds some cool to my mixing with DVS and controllers and I want them at my gig.

It seems to me you have to basically dismantle the whole DJ booth just to get you stuff set up?

Especially if you go DVS.

So we went from Vinyl to CDs becuase CDs meant you didn't need a forklift to get your tracks to a gig, Now you need to lug around soundcards and controllers and laptops and cds and all sorts of crap weighting more than any 100 vinyl box ever could and you don't need to unplug anything at the booth, except your needles and headphones.

This is just a collection of random thoughts haphazardly thrown together without any rereading or correcting or anything. If it doesn't make sense I take no responsability.

Piece.

Eh, vinyl was dead when Cd appeared because on a vinyl you can have 2 tracks, on a Cd from 1 to 50 which meant you could bring a lot of music in your jacket pocket.

Now you see that people is starting to use laptops instead of cdjs and made the point that a laptop, midi controllers etc... wheight much more than 50 vinyls, true fact but... just wait until all the clubs have a laptop and you only have to bring a USB pendrive.

Pioneer watched this i think because of the series 400,900,2000... now all include USB and you'll soon could bring 50gb of music in 100g.

I believe that 10 years ago if you wanted to mix with cds instead of with vinyls you had to bring your cdj because there were only turntables. Now i see happens something similar.

I would just use all those midi controllers and other such kerfluffin at home due to the hassle and the fact that most of the crowd won't hear all the neat you're doing with them anyway. Just show up with records/cds, slam away and get messy and sloppy. Save all the midi whoozits and laser controlled retina molestors at home for studio mixes where people will actually hear that you're using them.

This is another point, in most venues people don't give a of what are you doing , it's better making a fader slam than a poor beatmatching because people probably wouldn't notice the 1st case but the 2nd it's more ear damaging.

In terms of comfortability it's better to have a laptop and a midi controller if it's already in the club but if you have to bring the equipment...

if id start djeing again id demand the cdj2000 and just bring a couple of USBs. havent really tried it though, i wonder how fast u can browse through the files and keep control etc. i would probably burn out a few cds for backup though if everything went to hell. its exciting days really, wish i was more "into" the scene to really be trying stuff out.

unless you spin at ministry of sound pacha amnesia etc... i doubt a club has cdj2000 right now, good clubs have 1000's but tell the manager to invest 1000$ more on each cdj... unless a lot of famous people come to the club it's very unlikely to see 2000's.

thats what im saying. i wont start djeing again before im famous (which may seem as a bad loop but its not).

Most of big club have them, and you can still request them if you are booked to a club, They can rent them.

The 1000 mk3s was the standart for renting, 2000 will become the new one. Last saturday on a small square of ibiza near harbour, some people were installing a scene, their sound/light was not top quality, but they had cdj 2000 ...

To get back to the original question, i'm using serato + X1 + mac book pro, i move them to all my gig, 10 min to install, 5 min to pack up that's really not too long when i check all it has bring to my dj's set.

yes if we are talking about clubs with 1000+ capacity that's really a must, i'm sure they're booking a top dj every month but for the mid clubs having 2000's it's rare. My city is 300,000 inhabitants and none of the clubs have them yet.
