Does anybody know if there will be a cherry beach party on today? Also, is there a website we can check for the info?

Thx

Canada Day Thursday July 1st
promise cherry beach sunday afternoon soundsystem

Commuter trains commute, road rage rages, movies move, people shop in shops and someone's at home 'tidying up’. All the while the grasses wave and wind blows and airplanes and birds pass overhead, as we swing in hammocks and listen to rhythms flowing through the trees down at Cherry Beach.

Bring a frisbee, bring a kite, bring a handy sweater, bring a dog (only nice dogs), bring your lover and a hammock. And pass the time on this lazy sunny Sunday afternoon with friends and friends of friends.

on the decks:

Hubert - mellow groove
Andy Capp and Rod Skimmins - electro funk
Bob Sexton - sunshine house
Jonah K - bouncy dubstep
Samba Elegua - live samba drumming
Ali Black - sunset house
Hali - deep techno

3 to 11pm

this is a family friendly community event:

Cherry Beach Sundays are a wind down from a hectic week and made for our children, families and friends. We will refuse entry or eject anyone deemed, in our opinion, to be disruptive or even potentially disruptive. If this sounds like you, save yourself the trip and go somewhere more suited to your speed.

your old mugs needed:

Everyone’s highly encouraged to bring their own reusable mug for drinks. Also please bring any extras you may have lying around the house and pass them around to people in need. There will be a bin by the dj booth were you can drop them off as well. That’d be a huge help in reducing the amount of plastic cups we go through each week.

careful, don’t park on unwin avenue beside the smokestack:

Every week vehicles are ticketed and towed by the city. The cost is about $300. It’s also somewhat dangerous there, near to that S turn. The closest lots are at the base of Cherry Street, and the soccer fields off of Unwin.

directions:

From the parking lot at the base of Cherry Street follow the bike path east past the windsurfing and yacht clubs, halfway to the Leslie Spit, right in front of the huge old hydro plant smokestack visible from literally miles around... you’ll hear the music. The nearest washrooms and parking is about half a kilometre away, so you need to consider it like camping. Tip - ride your bike!

Driving - Take Lakeshore Blvd East just past Parliament. Turn south down Cherry Street all the way to the end.

Biking - Biking to to the beach is easy along the trails beside the lake.

TTC - Buses go from Union and Donlands stations right to the parking lot area at the beach.

Taxi - The new spot is right along Unwin Ave off of Cherry Street, get them to drop you at the huge smokestack.

things to think about:

Please don't bring more than you plan to take back out with you - leave no trace. Bring something warm (it gets cool after dark by the lake) and something to sit on and also something to keep sun off your head. Drink lots of water. Bring something to share.

weather updates:

If the weather is dodgy on Sunday, you can reach us on our mobiles to find out how things are going - David 416 550 2702, Irving 416 902 1740.

Cheers, and see you at the beach for Canada Day Thursday and again this week on Sunday July 4th!

Hanna Kunysz Art Opening at Hittite Gallery
Hanna is Dave’s girlfriend and beside being awesome in general she’s also a distinctly gifted artist. She works with oil on canvas. Best shot at describing Hanna’s stuff is that it’s like the love child of Jackson Pollock and Piet Mondrian. This is her 2nd show, and well worth checking out. Hittite Gallery is located in Yorkville, at 107 Scollard Street just off of Hazelton Avenue, and the opening goes from 7 to 9pm.
