Hey guys, i have 2 or 3 basslines here im wondering if you can help me with.
The sequencer notes are verry easy obviously, just one note dragged out. I wanna know how i can create these specific basslines in my synth, if there are different layers needed or if i need any other plugin's then EQ and compressor to create them.
I use mostly Sylenth but i have a few other vst's as well.
1. This is a verry dark bassline without any prominent sidechaining or ducking effect (but i guess sidechaining is used here anyways).
2. These 2 are more pumping, coldharbour style. Verry deep & atmospheric basslines which barely has been used since this style of prog trance died in 2005. These 2 are my absolute favorite ones.

That first one has very minor sidechaining, it's not entirely necessary because the kick is pretty quiet. But really it just sounds like a low sine wave. It's hard to find synths that keep that kind of definition in a range that low, but I do know Absynth can do it.
I'll let someone else explain the rest better than I can.

for those type off bass lines you need to sit down and work on timing i found if you sidechain some percussion and add a sinewave bass pattern thats nice and deep you can get the groove you need. also pitch is your friend to

Side chain , use a Sine to FM a sawtooth/square , play around with the PWM of their oscillators , Take away the higher freqs , add a unison/chorus to it , and most importantly... Layer layer LAYER!!

If all the advice in this thread so far hasn't helped you, maybe Lolo can shed some light on how it's done
as I recall, he's done a A&B Remix with a very similar bassline

Dont think there is that much layering going on in any of those.
First one is sidechained alright, just sounds like a saw with slight chorus
Second one is heavily sidechained with a good bit of chorus, last one heavily sidechained also
All of them have a fairly low cutoff frequency it seems, could be saw or pulse waves, hard to tell.

I will try your advice but when you say layers do you mean one sub, one mid, and a high end? Or even more then that?

hey, few years ago i was very curious on how to make the andrew bennet bass, you'll probably never replicate it, but i found a chorus and some reverb could help fill in some of the "warp space", as someone has mentioned already.
made a quick patch, nothing fancy; two oscillators of sine waves, layered with 2 oscillators of triangle waves for some more harmonics. i suggest you try saw waves cut off probably just below mid-way. sidechained obviously. Didnt feel like trying more waveforms and applying routing. synths used: malstrom and subtractor.

not sure if you're looking for something like this, but i noticed its not mixed the same was as the tracks, as i tend to do it differently, youll notice theirs is more sparse, more effects, and eq'd down less, mines is boomed up.
also, theres probably a few ways to attain that sound, with use of delays, reverbs, you have to utilize some creativity.

I wouldn't use FM for sub bass , only pure sine waves. Though you can try FMing low basses , but make sure they don't clash with the sub bass.
FM is usually done on mid bass , for example you can check out Mat Zo's The Found and Nuclear Fusion. Both of them have mid basses that should (Yeah I'm just taking a guess here) be done with distortion synthesis , especially using FM. That's just how it sounds to me , I'm not sure if I'm right since I haven't actually tried to recreate the sound.
