I think it's not a secret that you don't need to be a musical genius in todays EDM scene to become famous.
Its all about the right timing, the right connections and some good marketing.
I am a little bit surprised about some comments though.

I'm subscribed to FM and watched the interview on the DVD this morning, as stated they are only in the studio for the compressor on the desk and to add the vocal to the track, 196 channels on the desk and they're using 6 of them FFS.

did they fly over to London, rented a bigass studio to use a compressor on a track which is already compressed to death just to add some vocals to it? rofl. i am amazed. they cant be right in their head.

Pretty sick track. The intro is killer. There is a lot of hate and jealousy in this thread.

Did it make you pop your collar

And yes, they rented a big studio so they could look like they don't just sit there in front of a mac book and tell their engineer "that guitar needs to sound more purple". Don't forget folks "that why they run this " :haha:

I swear to god it exactly reminds me of a session I did with XXXXXXXXX where he literally rented to the studio (with the 246 channel desk and several protools rigs) so we could record one, 1 minute, instrument part and then spent the rest of the 5 hour session doing obligatory "down the faders" shots and various other poses to include on their website to make them look like a real producer.

uhh lol. they're a business trying to sell a magazine?

your question reminds me of a radio talk show i was listening to on my way to work the other day.

a guy calls up complaining about corporate america and goes "I'LL TELL YA WHERE THESE CORPORATIONS WENT WRONG THEY SPEND ALL THIS ADVERTISING MONEY TRYING TO SELL THEIR STUFF. COME ON 5 MILLION FOR A SUPER BOWL AD THAT'S A JOKE!"

my god, that guy called into a radio host who's ENTIRE INCOME is based upon his ad sales on his show. The radio host's answer was priceless he was like "well no scott i do think those ad's work"

i rarely laugh driving to my job. i in nearly spit out my coffee on this one

Point taken. The fact remains that a magazine marketing itself as an industry technical periodical is sticking its name on something more fit for a fan magazine. Yeah - they're trying to sell magazines but a little editorial integrity might be called for. I haven't read FM in a while but when I did read it, the articles seemed to have a little more depth and a little less fluff. That video was scripted cross-promotional ad copy marketed as a peek at purportedly legitimate journalism - a feature article of the magazine. The video's content, however, was an effective demonstration of how little substance one could count on.

So, taking your assertion at face value - that they're trying to sell magazines - they certainly are. The target market must be self-deluded, feeble-minded morons who would like to make music but will only ever manage to mangle a monophonic version of "three-blind-mice".
