Internet providers in MTL

Hi guys, can you help me come up with a list of all available home internet providers (in Montreal)?

Couple years ago I went from Sympatico DSL (garbage) to Videotron cable. Cable is great but I feel like I'm being ripped off by the Peladeau empire.

Anyone heard of Teksavvy?

What else is out there? Anyone uses a satellite internet connection?

Thanks!

Here is something I found 2 weeks ago and saved from a forum!

I don't know if any providers allow you to rent a modem for free, but they usually allow you to use any modem. Lots of people seem to like the TP-Link TD-8816 modem. It's about $30.

Here are some options for cheap internet. Unfortunately, they're all throttled by Bell Canada, but there are workarounds:

1) Acanac - $18.95/month (I think tax is included) for the first year with a 1-year payment upfront. Each year after is $33.95/month. SSH tunnel bypasses throttle. Dry loop costs $8/month.
Seems like a you get what you pay for type of ISP. Some people love it, some hate it.

2) TekSavvy - $29.95/month 200GB internet usage. $39.95/month for unlimited usage. MLPPP bypasses throttle. $4/month for MLPPP (Static IP included as an option). Dry loop costs vary depending on location.

3) Velcom - $29.95/month 200GB internet usage. $34.95/month for unlimited usage. MLPPP bypasses throttle. I don't think they charge for MLPPP. Dry loop costs vary depending on location.
Do any Velcom users around here have any comments about the service?

4) Electronicbox - $39.95/month for unlimited usage. Diskace mentioned that MLPPP is in the works. Dry loop costs $9.95/month.

DSL might be good on your location, for example at my house i was barely getting 1mbps.

On the other hand, the reliability and speed of Cable is unbeatable.

You can get Cable from other companies like Vif.net which is 30$ a month, less than Videotron for the exact same thing.

Add 10$ and you got yourself a phone line with 3000 long distance minutes, caller id, voice mail, etc.

Im with teksavvy, and ive had no problems with them whatsoever. Speed is pretty good, not as good as videotron, but downloading i usually get in the 350-550 range. Excellent customer service, and the price is right. I would def recommend them.

i've known a couple people who had vif and were pretty happy with it

if i'm not mistaken they also have a 'soft cap' on bandwidth so you don't get overage charges too

I'm currently with AEI

It's ADSL speeds, unlimited downloading and uploading.

I'm quite happy with them, I used to be with videotron and felt like I was being ripped off.

Yeah ill be cancelling videotron August 1st! Not sure who ill be going with..

I have a question for everyone!

Just moved into new apartment and I ordered bell basic satellite TV package for 28$/month. They are coming tommorow to install so I can still cancel... I already hate them because they told me no contract and what do I get after? a 2 year fakin contract! WTF. Does anyone know of anyone cheaper than Bell for TV? I feel like I'm walking into a storm with them..

My brother was with Bell basic satellite. He hated it, and switched to Shaw Satellite. I'm not sure how much more it was, but I know the choices in channels were much better, and the feeds were more reliable (during storms and such).

Check it out. Maybe it's something you'd prefer.
