About two weeks ago I got an email through my Reverbnation account (which I hardly ever even look at anymore) from a local singer who liked some of the work that I've done with Aliciya, Mia, et al. My first thought was "oh god, I don't have time for another singer", but I checked out her tunes and loved her voice. We met the next the day and she is just a totally awesome person with a great attitude and very motivated to write some dance tracks, so we got started on a new track right away and finished it today. We're both really happy with the results and work very well together, so expect to hear many more tracks featuring Heather Kelle in the near future! Heather just created her music myspace, so feel free to add her!
It's a pretty poppy sounding dance track, so probably not everybody's cup of tea here, but I am most interested in knowing if you guys think this song has much commercial value. Comments on the rest of the song are welcome as well.
Super cute voice and melody (yes I used cute...) I just added her on myspace. How does it feel to have so many female vocalist lining up outside your door when all I have are stray cats at mine? lol.
cryophonik
Thanks Tom! I swear, though, cuteness is NOT a criteria - it just seems to come along with the talent, I guess.

The Stray Cats rock! You should invite them in to make some tranceabilly! :p

Very poppy!
I have a little issue with the pads through a work PC and sennheiser bud earphones. It sounds like they're badly aliasing through this setup, and the reason I point it out is that it's how a lot of people listen to music these days! I can see it doinf well on the radio stations you already get played on.
It's got the recognisable Cryo melodies and chord changes and a catchy vocal line. Her voice sounds obviously autotuned at certain points (PLEASE don't tell me it's not now :p ) but that's no biggie for me.
It's probably a great track to put out there for remixes.

Thanks Geoff!

Thanks for pointing that out. I'll give it a look, but you may be hearing all the swirling from the flanger (it's layered on thick!). Maybe I need to back off a bit.

I treated some of her vocals with Melodyne, mostly on the tails of the longer sustained notes, so it's not as obvious as you might think, but yeah, it's there. But, I also seem to hear it in several places where I didn't pitch-correct the vocals - it seems to be the combination of the layered vocals (esp. in the chorus) and the modulated echoes - when they overlap just right, it sounds like a bit of a Cher effect or vocoder.

Is that a hint? ;)

Yeah I could tell the swirly effect was a deliberate thing, but it's that perception of digital noise that you can get through certain listening environments that came through on this crappy setup. All the nuances you mix in are lost on the normal mp3 players I guess.
And sadly no, that's not a hint. I haven't the time to fart at the moment :(
Good luck with teh labelz Daveh! :p

Thanks! Now, if I can just find a label that would be interested in something that's not quite trance, not quite house, and not quite mainstream pop.
Kysora
There's something rather airy and almost wet sounding going on in the last half of the song that I don't particularly like. Other than that fantastic track, I really like the melodies under the vocals.
edit: Disregard that, apparently headphones tend to sound better when they're plugged in all the way into the jack, haha. Everything sounds top notch, great work
owien
lol at kyrosa yeah have to agree with the rest of the crew the pad does sound a bit grainy. The vocals work well in the mix tho as does everything else :p
EddieZilker
Totally cool little tune, here.
I don't think I heard the same grainy quality others are referring to. I do like the harmony/counter-point you guys have going on with the vocals. The backing layering is quite cool and sort of trippy.
cryophonik
Thanks for the listens and comments/compliments, guys! And, thanks for the shoutout on FB, EZ!!! Much appreciated!
I think the graininess you're hearing was caused by soundcloud (if I'm hearing what I think you're hearing) because the version on my myspace sounds cleaner to me. If you click on my "myspace" link in my sig, you can hear the 192kbps version (streamed from my server, not through the myspace player). It's odd though, because I actually uploaded a higher quality render (320kbps) to soundcloud - maybe the conversion got screwed up. :conf:

Soundcloud copies a conversion of your upload to 128kbps when you upload it - it's the file they use for the player. It yields worse results, the more upper EQ gain you have in your mix. You can disable the conversion copy but you won't be able to feature the song in the player.
