How to Become A Psy Trance Producer
View this Thread in Original format
Akshat_psy
Hi guys ,

This is Akshat from Mumbai, India... I have been listening to trance since I was a kid .. always thought of doing something in trance ..but never really trusted myself that I can make trance...

Finally after attending so many live concerts in India... I feel I should do something to start producing trance music to calm my soul...

Just want to know what are the steps to start... how do I go about it ??

Please help me ... Which softwares are used for producing psy-trance music??

I have FL Studio 9 but I can't understand it .. I don't have any tutorial for that..there are so many controls in there.. that I can't do anything about it...

Guys who are DJs here please tell me how you started... ??

Thanks ...

1. Know music. Producing music requires some musical talent. Having experience in music in one form or another helps a great deal.

2. Pick a DAW software package such as Cubase, Ableton Live, Sonar, Reason, Reaper, FL Studio or Logic (Mac only) and learn it inside and out.

3. Do not buy a single piece of hardware until you know that you need it. In 2010, a computer, some headphones and a good DAW software package are all you need to get started. Do not buy hardware until you are ready for it.

There are thousands of tutorials out there, especially for FL Studio. Use Google and YouTube. Once of the most important traits of a good producer is knowing how to find knowledge. If you don't know how to do it, you should know how to find it.

DJing and producing are two completely different disciplines. One really has very little to do with the other.

I will train you.

First, however, you need:

1. Sheet of Acid.
2. A case of McCormick Scotch.
3. A brick of Marijuanna.
4. A Mini Refrigerator stocked with five-gallons of water.
5. A high-end PA with a stereo crossover, four-foot speakers, and a CD Player with a repeat function.
7. Front242's Tyranny (For You)
8. A circular pit, 4 meters deep with a radius of two meters.
9. A 2.5 meter ladder.
10. 2 Empty Five Gallon buckets.
11. Twenty consecutive days off from work, family and friends.
12. Three 20x30cm towels made of Egyptian Cotton.

@Eric J

I am listening to psy trance from the age of 9 ..and all these years.. I think ,,, I know in and out of that music... I think I can make some tracks .. the only thing I need is knowledge of using those softwares... I have FL Studio Pro 9 ..but I can't use it.. everything is so complicated...!! I am downloading Logic Studio 9 now .. I hope its easy...

@EddieZilker

I didn't understand some of your points there lol ..but yeah if you can teach me ,...it would be great..

Am also looking for an internship with some psy-trance DJ who can teach me the traits.. and then can take me in his band,. I am ready to leave everything for this and pursue Trance-production full time.,..

For money I work in a 5 star hotel almost a 12 hr shift ..which gives me very less time...

@ Everyone 30th July in Mumbai India Infected Mushroom are playing at Bluefrog.. am excited !!!

thanks

Regards,
Akshat.

Listening to music does not make one a musician.

You just need to figure it out. Again there are literally thousands of tutorials on Google.

So you are using FL Studio (a Windows only application), but you are "downloading" :whip: Logic Studio 9 (a Mac-only application)?

Do you have both platforms?

P.S. You might not want to advocate piracy on these forums, its not considered good form.

LOL this is too hilarious to be true. Akshat, I congratulate you on making my day with this thread.

Seriously though, a DJ is not a producer, producers don't usually for "bands", don't leave everything and pursue production. That's an absolutely terrible idea.

What you have to do is stop trying to become a producer and do what you're doing, it seems you will take this way too seriously and that's not good.
