For this session, Culprit changes up its international guest-driven modus operandi by going deep and homegrown. This showcase will feature an amazing live show by Ken Gibson, Culprit's premier album artist and a man of as many talents as monikers, an exciting LA debut for New York's Chris Manik aka MANIK - a young star on a meteoric rise and a new Culprit artist, and a great chance to shine for Culprit's residents: Droog, Bas and Clovis.

Email us at [email protected] for guestlist. Free before 2pm and only $10 before 4pm.

Few artists around have as wide-ranging and an accomplished career as a producer and a live act as Los Angeles-based Ken Gibson. Under the myriad of aliases such as [a]pendics.shuffle, Reverse Commuter, dubLoner, Premature Wig, Bell Gardens, Cascabel Gentz, and, alas his own full name - Kenneth James Gibson has moved seamlessly from genre to genre, mastering each with panache and charisma. Dub House, Minimal Techno, Tech-House, IDM, shoegaze rock - in the last 10 years, Ken has done it all, receiving acclaim for whatever he touched. That Ken isn't yet a household name he deserves to be is a testament to trend-driven dance music scene and Ken's essential unwillingness to chase the hype. Now, after accumulating such an amazing resume of work, the hype is coming to Ken.

Ken Gibson has been one of the pillars of Culprit with two EP releases in our first year. Now, the label takes the next step by coming out with the first full length album and its only fitting that it's the work of Ken. "Delusional Tales and Non-Silence" is a 10-track compendium that skips the abstract and downtempo bits in favor of pure dancefloor action, with a twist. For those who haven't seen Ken playing live (his set on the rooftop last September was a stone-cold killer), do not miss it on August 8th as he previews his album.

Our special guest on the 8th is a fantastic young producer with a dance world at his feet. Chris Manik or MANIK is a NYC-based lad whose rapid rise in the scene is one of the stories of 2010. Breaking through late last year with an excellent EP on Josh Wink's Ovum label, Chris has worked non-stop releasing great music on Four:Twenty, Poker Flat and now Culprit. Chris' exciting four-track EP will be coming out in September. A terrific DJ to boot, watch out for MANIK in the years to come.

The party will also see more prominent sets from the Culprit Sessions residents Droog and their younger counterparts, Clovis and Bas. All have been hard at work honing their respective DJ and production crafts, taking the label's ethos and vibe on the road everywhere from Hawaii to Berlin via Mexico, Canada, Miami, Detroit and the rest. Watch out for their upcoming music on Culprit.

The same guy we've been hiring for the past 2 years or so. I believe we met up with him through Lee Foss; he used to do Lee's fliers when he was still in Chicago.
