Do you have the urge to to acquire and accumulate lots of equipment related to your job/hobby? Do you see paradise as a place full of stuff you can use every single drop of everything though you probably won't ever have the time and resources to find out what's inside every single piece of equipment you ever bought? You're not alone, I'm with you.
Well, sorta.
I gave up on producing music with hardware in the late 90's, so I've settled for something more relevant to my job. Namely, books. I swore to myself that by the time my 2 year long post as a lecturer ended, I'd have enough books to fill all the space in the two giant bookshelves I bought and have a whole wall in my flat look like a library. And I'm close to achieving that.
The reason why I playfully equal my mass purchase of books with Gear Acquisition Syndrome rather than with collecting is because I intend to use them the way a musician uses their equipment. Though, instead of effects and patches, I'll have sources and citations to work on.
I know Sushipunk and Ramenhardcore have GAS. Anyone else?

whenever i'm interested in something i go through the same....
i've always read a lot - but i'm still young, without a real disposable income, so i don't exactly have what you could call "a ton" of books. but i have more books than any of my peers that i've encountered.
about 2 years ago i fell in love with craft beer. since then i've accumulated quite a nice cellar, with some great rare beers, one-offs, and otherwise just beers that age well. nearly 30 bottles, bombers, and 750mls that i'm too afraid to open anytime soon.
and of course it's always been music. i own so many cds, tho i have unfortunately turned to pirating more music lately. since i've gotten more into edm i've considered getting some tables and starting to buy vinyl, but i think that could be a slippery slope.

I fully have GAS. My gf does too :( For music gear and camera gear :(
It's pretty awesome though :D

My mate lives at home with his parents but has a hench job, he bought a 53" Sony 3d TV for his room which is tiny, it covers the whole wall, it's madness. He also drives a silly fast car.

My bedroom looks like a branch of Currys with the amount of gadgetry* in it.

I tend to be pretty low-gear. The most "gear" I have for any of my hobbies relates to working out, because I do it at home, but even my "gym" is just a scruffy room in the basement populated by a scavenged barbell bench, my weights, a spare garden chair and some speakers.
In fact, I'm pretty sparse on possessions in general. The only exceptions are my big collections of CDs and books.

Yeah, I have this problem too. I need to buy a lot of "boring" stuff (cables, outboard processors, food), but I'm about to shell out a good chunk for a new bass and electric guitar soon.
I'd hate to imagine how I would feel when I finally bought most of what I want.

Well, that's the beauty of technology GAS. Stuff will be outdated in a few years, and then you want to upgrade :p
