I guess people and taste change.
Remember me, "back in the days" ? When I first registered here on TA, it was few days after Tiesto @ CEPSUM which was my first after/club/EDM event/whatever experience. I was loving Tiesto at that moment. I remember my parents buying me 3 CDs of Tiesto at the following Christmas !
Then my taste changed...Tiesto changed his style as well but I started to listen to A State of Trance from Armin where I discovered many many new artists that I did not know. I began to go out in the afterhours more and discovered many local talents such as Gabriel Batz and Nick Pilon. I remember saying that never I will like House music.
Now today, I find myself listening sometimes to Prog House and House. Don't get me wrong, Trance is still my favorite kind of music, but I changed.
Maybe this is what happened to Mauro as well ? Tiesto, I'm pretty sure it's all about the money. Tiesto used to do good music in the days (I'm sorry but Flight 643 is an incredible song), but there might be more cash to do in the "mainstream" area.
Just my 2c.

Neo, I can agree with you on everything except for Mauro's taste changing. Its obvious that he just wanted to try and blend in with the new sound but it shows his heart is not into it. Maybe he just doesn't have that drive to push boundaries anymore? A lot of the old school techno guys are making desperate attempts to try and fit in. The problem is these legendary producers are making music that can't be diffrentiated from the average song made by some random beatport artist.

I'm not a big fan of Mauro, so maybe I should not have commented on Mauro. You might be right though...some people are in this for cash, others for passion. It is possible that the passion fades away after sometime and getting tired of it.
There are few exceptions, few producers that are keeping their own style. They don't want to blend in, they want to do a song that represents them, and I respect that. In the past, I tried to produce but do not have the creativity for it. I really wanted, but I guess some people can't. And I didn't want to "steal" parts of songs of other people, I didn't want to blend it.
I've seen Mauro live at Aria in 2005, I think. It was right after Junkie XL. Mauro was not my style, too much techno, but I can definatly say that he has the creativity and the talent to produce. He has its own unique sound and has nothing to proove to others producers.
Can we call an EDM producer an artist ? I think so. Many EDM haters would not agree with me, but it's not as easy as they might think. The Reason or Ableton software doesn't not create a song on its own. Anyway, my point is that an artist is supposed to be unique, it's supposed to have its own signature in whatever he does (paint, music, clothes, etc). Why do they want to blend in ? I don't get it. If it's not for the cash, and that there is a lack of passion, then why are they trying to blend in ? To get back on the train and then stand up besides all the others ?
Maybe I just don't get it. Passion is the most important part of an artist to me.

i always say 100% of it...or else it's all for the wrong reasons.
when you are passionnate you feel the need to learn more and more and work harder and harder... success is almost guaranteed with that state of mind.

I know what you meen when you say that you don't want to just go throw some premade loops together. Thats mostly why I never ended up producing anything worth listening to. Electronic music has more people sounding the same because computers and studio gear has become so easily accessible. Passion is the most important thing and as soon as you start lacking in it, people like me will be there to notice and point it out :D

Here are my videos:
I'm a big fan of the "old" Lange. For those who don't know Lange, he is a Trance producer who's been around for quite a while. He was also known as Firewall and SuReal. Everytime Lange releases a new song, I'm one of the very first to listen to it ... and being disapointed.
One of Lange's classics :
This is one of its latest productions, which is very popular in the Radio Shows today. Not a bad song, but as I was saying in my first post, people's style change. And that's unfortunate, because I loved the old Lange.
Wow, there are Trance songs on the Montréal forum:eyes:
