I got out of school 6 months ago and the economy is at the moment in the States , . For about a month i didn't even get a single call for an interview eveyone was asking for at least 2 years of experience , I mean how am I supposed to get experience if no one hires someone that just got out of school ... catch 22 anyone???
So yeah I know how it feels to hang in there... Along the way I got disappointed from a lot of people that i thought I would actually get help from , I learned that is pretty much how the world revolves ...at last I found something thanks to a friend that knows a friend and I must say I'm pretty happy with my job :) , so jake putting it outhere shouldn't make you feel bad .... something will come up mate .

That's why you have to lie on your resume.
Which includes:
- Stretching dates to cover employment gaps
- Enhancing job titles
- Embellishing job duties and achievements
If I didn't do that, I am certain I would still be jobless.

I agree with all this
but in my case they would find out instantly that i just got out of school just because of the number on my license :p

My jobless stint outta law school lasted 13 months before i got part time jobs substitute teaching and tutoring, then april this year i got a federal gov job that i am absolutely loving. Be warned about applying to federal jobs though, since they take 6 months (in some cases longer) to go from application review to firm job offer. You mentioned a science background of sorts, if you were engineering i'd tell you there are 40 positions at LA air force base waiting to be filled.

what software are you well versed in? Fcp and Avid ... other stuff too?
do you do any colour correction?
Are you marketable online and offline?
Part of a union?
have you considered other places that big companies and the likes? The videography business while often operating and owned by the same person with minimal crew can need help on certain things.
You have to look at the bigger picture and think of alternative gameplans.
Yes something may very well turn up but it doesn't happen overnight, and you aren't going to be head hunted unless you have real assets

I was pretty much in the same boat after I graduated. The internship I had with a defense firm did not yield a job like I thought it would. I also thought I was pretty well with connected my friends for references and inside hookups, but I learned I wasn't as marketable (or even connected) as I previously imagined.
The military isn't a bad life. Just make the most of your sweet benefits while you're in.
