because you have to have a passport to exit a country (especially a visa controlled one like Nigeria) and a passport to enter the next country (even if its your own country). And the airline wouldn't let you buy a ticket or check in without proof of identity.
You can't just go to the airport and claim you lost your id and get onto a plane. You would have to go to your embassy and get temporary travel documents.

Precisely, and the death of his girlfriend would be reported sooner or later, so he'd have to deal with that too. Unless, of course, our great hero buried her in a hill in the outskirts of Lagos, destroyed all evidence that she ever entered the country, and convinced everyone at the Embassy that he had indeed travelled on his own despite any previous claims.
Also, do you really think he'd kill all those people and no one would call the police/the local mob/Colonel Sanders?
