that statement is debatable.

Not sure what the real motivation for entering is but it can be a challenging fun experience. Yes these things have their own set of issues yet I feel one shouldn't take themselves too seriously at least not 100% of the time.

If he loses he loses, either way it could be horrendous or wonderful but it will give him a view from the filp/nonflip side of the coin

think of it this way

it would be like a movie star doing tv adds. once you put yourself in a category, people associate you with that category. It does more harm than good. WInning isn't based on skill and it really isn't worth the pain in the ass. If you success depends on things like this, you aren't going to get very far.

I see movie stars in commercials all the time, I still go see their movies.

Probably not the best analogy but I'm just saying, doing something that's inherently "lower" than what you've already done doesn't exactly taint your reputation permanently.

if something doesn't increase your brand worth, you don't do it. Business 101. And they only get away with it because they do it in Japan. Once you do adds in America, your acting days are numbered.
Kysora
Did he say he's doing this for a business venture? I'm seriously asking, maybe there's something I'm missing, but he could just be doing this for fun. That doesn't seem entirely unreasonable. Why do something you enjoy purely by what's good for it from a business perspective?
Mad for Brad
I knew the guy along time ago and he was pretty serious djing at the time. I doubt this is just something he does for fun.
Kysora
Oh, then we're arguing different perspectives, my bad.

there are 10 djs, , 15 minutes each. The goal is obviously not to showcase the talent and have a real contest. It is the same scam as battle of the bands where desperate djs will bring all their friends so they cheer the loudest while the promoters make money on drink and ticket sales.. The prize, a place on the roaster ? Great and now you get to play for them for free for the next show. You'd have to be an idiot to think this is a worthwhile endeavour. Especially if you've been in the scene for almost 10 years which I think he has been. And this isn't a big city, it is Calgary Alberta.

- Drop as many big crowd pleasers as you can.

- Use very obvious and big showy effects.

- Make transitions noticeable but not (don't train wreck) but a big filter out of track A then slam track B into the breakdown works wonders.

- Keep the energy up. Always.

Let's be honest here, you cannot and will not be able to deliver anything intellectual or sophisticated in 15 minutes that anyone other than yourself will realise or appreciate.

You could layer 7 tracks together and throw 4 accapellas over each transition perfectly, but the fact is if you do this right people will assume it's you just playing the one track, lol.

So just sell out mate and push all the party buttons.

Oh dropping a rap track/accapella will also score bonus points.

I'm not joking either.
