FINALLY, A MOVIE WHERE YOU HAVE TO THINK.
really?
i thought it was pretty straightforward
aside from the cheeky ending, it was obvious where the characters were and what they were doing
it's a summer blockbuster after all, albeit a damn good one
nothing cerebral in my opinion

I don't get why some people call it a summer blockbuster. Because it had Leo in it? Because it was successful? Christopher Nolan wrote, produced, and directed it. He wanted to take a complex script that makes people think for themselves how to interpret something that has no objectively correct interpretation and took it to the masses by using an A list actor, some decent effects, and a prime release date... the normal trappings of dumbed down cinema. I really respect what he's done with it. I've seen it once, and it wasn't my favorite movie he's done, but that might change after a few more viewings, like I find most of his films do.

Well, your question was "why do people consider it a summer blockbuster". By listing the reasons why people do so, you answered your own question. We get your point, its just irrelevant to the question you want answered.

Friend of mine left to use the W.C., when she came back, she didn't understand anything. Missing 5 minute of the movie can literally kill the whole moment for you.
It's a movie that doesn't have the usual ending like the rest of the movies. It's unique in it's own way. I'm not suggesting Chris Nolan being the god creating something new. I'm stating that he made something eye openning. It's honestly no surprise that most critics adore this movie.

To me a summer blockbuster has a high profile actor, a reliance on visual effects, and an unoriginal, usually cliché, script. It's the last part where Inception separates itself from the pack I think. To make a film that challenges the general public and make it the biggest seller at the box office for two weeks is pretty admirable imo.
