Question about A State Of Trance 2005

my first trance album was ASOT 2005 which I copied from my brother, who bought the compilation from a small music store in Philadelphia circa 2006. It is what really got me deeper in to dance music and more specifically, trance.
What amazed me is how many tracks were mixed in to it.. each disc had anywhere from 25 to 35 tracks!! I had been a fan of DJ mixes in general across different genres and I knew this production must have taken a lot of skill and preparation.
I also downloaded ASOT 2006 which had a similar high energy feel with frequent track changes (A.D.D, attention deficit disorder if you will).
Fast forward to 2009, I bought asot 2009 and liked it, but it was done in a different style -- fewer tracks but you get to hear them almost in their entirety. Ditto for ASOT 2010.
What I can't figure out is that somehow the version of ASOT 2005 my brother and I have (about 70 mixed songs across 2 CDs) is not what is listed on Amazon or other sites, including Wikipedia. The version they list has about 13-15 tracks per disc.
Which version do I have, did Armin really mix it, and are these A.D.D.-style mixes still produced?

Yeah, starting in 2004, Armin started doing yearmixes of 70-100 or so tracks all mashed up. He also, separately, started releasing ASOT 2004/5 etc. which was a more traditional mix CD with mostly full versions but only including about 12 tracks or so per cd.
If you liked the 2005 yearmix, try to get your hands on 2004. I think it's his best one by far. |
