Practical question: how to recreate this sound?

It sounds like something you might get modulating a square wave with noise (using FM). Might be on multiple octaves, too, not sure.
May have a crack at it later and report back. |

Had a try, got something similar:

Made by modulating square wave with noise (FM). Modulation index is pretty small because you don't need much before it gets extremely noisy. Medium attack and medium release on the envelope. I put a multitap delay on mine but now realize that their effect is just a filtered echo.
Their sound has more high harmonic content, which makes me think they mixed in another wave somewhere. But I think the one I made is a decent starting point.

It would, if people actually used it. But it would be difficult to herd everyone into the thread.
I don't actually mind threads about specific sounds anyway. They're a nice break from "Should I get a Virus TI?", "How do I maek trantz like PvD?!?!" and "Which VSTs are the best?" threads. |

cool i love having a pseudo stab at these. (even if i fail ;D)
although this may be incorrect, i focused my attention on distortion type effects (Tube / Overdrive)

I'm doing this with Albino3:
1. White noise in Osc1
2. Analog square wave in Osc2
3. Low attack on both
4. Somewhat long sustain on Osc2
5. Using 4 effects on that:
- Chorus with low wet
- WahWah with a low attack
- Reverb with a low wet, a medium pre-delay, and a rather big room size
- Delay with a medium wet, left channel synced to 1/4, right channel synced to 1/8
I think I'm gonna tweak it a bit more tomorrow, but I think I got to a decent starting point |
