Because people like Kevin have the money and means to essentially control the government. Pretty simple really.

Clearly it's disintegrating under the duress of your bloated government and over-flowing hospitals where people die on waiting lists!

Next stop: DEATH PANELS!!

I blame the British. They terrified Americans who now think any sort of control must be bad.

"You want me to pay taxes? The British are coming! You want me to share something with people I don't know? The British are coming!"

Sometimes I think it'd be great if they tried to privatise just one city in the US where not even the roads belong to the government. It's bound to cure them :p

Yeah, because them decentralizing it means that it it failed. Especially considering that it was a bunch of conservatives who decided to decentralize it.

And they're not ending it. Just taking away layers of bureaucracy in an effort to cut costs (by cutting the jobs of the bureaucrats).

Come on, dude. Try harder. A lot harder :p

Well it's certainly not succeeding; if it were, why would they be decentralizing? Just like Canada's new Surgeon General who is moving to re-establishing private health care to save their system. You illustrate my point by mentioning that removing layers of bureaucracy enhances the situation. If you read the article you'd see they are also moving some of the decision making back towards the doctors.

"Decentralize" = getting rid of? Hmmm. Weird.

Probably because Conservatives are in power again and want to get rid of anything "socialist?" Not to mention they are trying to save a lot of money in bureaucracy (which seems like a good idea to me and most liberals).

I did read the article.

Saying "It's been" implies that it is over ;)

It doesn't do enough. We need a one payer system. On the other hand its better than nothing.

Basically IMO it comes down to the doctors.

They are paid too much.

They need to be paid too much because their education is so expensive.

Education is too expensive.

Fix that. We need free or VERY cheap state universities again or we are going to fall behind even further than we already are.

Doctor's salaries aren't even close to being a primary reason as to why health care is so expensive.

so explain the massive costs associated with private health care in the US.
SYSTEM-J
They're decentralising it as part of public spending cuts. The Tories are making massive cuts to every area of the public sector to cut the national debt. It doesn't mean the entire public sector is a failure.

Have you ever taken a leftist point of view on any issue in your life? Has there ever been anything where you've thought your party had got it wrong? I always find the political zealots like you to be weirdly pathetic.

There is no "perfect" system.

People live long, unhealthy lives with chronic disease and demand fast access to expensive, cutting-edge medicine. They want it to be cheap or free and don't want to take responsibility for their own lifestyle and health decisions.

If anyone can figure out a solution to this that is cost-effective and makes everyone happy, there's a Nobel Prize waiting...
