Ok I have said it... Hardware is better than software

Analogue synths canot compare to virtual plugins. Hardware sound more fuller, more rounder and more warm then any vst/au in the market. If you think this is false, then post clips of your virtual plugins ability and prove me wrong

Ps this is serious, bring it on

I've got a rather nice collection of VSTi's, I think it'd be better if you posted some examples of what you think you can make that software can't do, and let us try and make comparable sounds.

That is, if anyone cares enough to try and prove you wrong. I might.

Perhaps a rash of anonymous trolls has gotten the populace a little riled up.

Depends on what you want to do.

Analog synths are best at sounding like analog synths (duh), but there are lots of cool things they cannot do well or at all, like FM synthesis, granular, additive. I love my Moog and Juno 6, but they won't "replace" my FM7, for the obvious reason that they do totally different things.

orTofønChiLd, do you even own any analog synths, or are you just trying to stir up trouble?

Yes its better, but we already know that!

of course analog sounds better than digital, it's a no brainer

Yay, a 2-for-1 special! A hardware vs software AND an analog-vs-digital debate in one thread! Maybe I can throw in a good Mac vs. PC debate so we can really stir things up in this thread.

I've heard plenty of hardware that sounds great and plenty of hardware that sounds like crap. Go listen to a Korg Prophecy, or a Roland SH-2000. Those are both hardware and both sound like ass.

Hardware sounds different than software. Analog sounds different than digital. Use the right tools for the job, whatever they may be.

Talent makes good music, not equipment.

This isn't necessarily better, nor is the warmth necessarily desirable for every application. It's good to have, but hardware is completely optional these days.
