how to start a mix?

Basically i need to do a couple of mixes for my hols (in 2 weeks time), and im a little stuck on what tune to start off with. I normally begin with sphere and accorsi - set the mood, but feel like a change. Im looking for something reasonably recent, in the last year at least, and not project medusa vs exor - moonshine. Please help

| it depends on the theme of the set, is it a summer(y) set or a club set. club set you dont want to start off slow, you want that upbeat get your head bobbing beat like elevate/needlejuice but if ur spinning a set for friends on the beach or a chill out set to listen to, then i'd say start off with a slow one, rank1-many miles too soon? i dont know just keep in mind the mood when u start the set! afterall you are the dictator of the music that night so it is your preference!~ |

probably after a chillout track to start off. A more upbeat track would be great for future reference though. ive also been advised brainchild - symmetry c (Lange breakbeat mix). Does anyone agree, or have any other suggestions. Thanks for ure replys.

The Brainchild tune is nice but I'd recommend the Vincent de Moor Remix over Lange's breakbeat mix. It has a pretty cool intro. Anyways, if you want an upbeat start to your mix it's hard to beat this track:

But if you're looking for something a little softer and more chill to ease people into a set, try one of these on for size:
Lost Tribe - Angel <--- breakbeat-ish track, I've heard Armin start with this
Orkidea - Unity
Paul van Dyk - Santos
Planisphere - Ozone
Chicane - Sunstroke <--- again, breakbeats make for an interesting beginning
Space Manoeuvres - Stage One (Pariah's Banjo Mix)
Ocean Lab - Clear Blue Water (Geert Huinink Remix)
Disco Citizens - Nagasaki Badger (Chicane Remix) <--- beautiful intro
Orinoko - Island (Alternative Mix) <--- screw the Thrillseekers mix, this is the epitome of summertime trance

i would have never considered aria-dido as an opener, but will consider giving it a go, unless there are any better suggestions. as for the chillout mix, i may try solar stone - greenlight as im a big fan of solar stone. Cheers guys.
Oh, if u can also let me know on a possible ending, as thats always just as difficult, again for a chillout and a more upbeat mix that'd be great! (im sure i can then fill in the gap!!)
