Were you living in BC? B/c if you were living in Ontario and someone used it in Barrie that would make sense. B/c it would be odd for you to use it in BC.
That's strange though. I've had TD call me a number of times. Sometimes it was just me, and a couple of times it was when my card of VISA was stolen. I've had nothing but great experiences with them. |
I went to B.C to visit my brother for a week but I called TD to notify them I would be using it there so I could avoid any complications. Thats why I am suprised they didnt cancel the transactions which took place in Barrie since they knew I would be in B.C |

I've only ever dealt with TD and BMO, so I don't know how CIBC works. TD's suspicious activity department is awesome though. When I've made large purchases in other cities they often call just to confirm it's really me.
TD didn't block my account either when it happened. I could still use it - I just wasn't reimbursed until later. I'm sure if I had to use overdraft too they would have refunded the fees b/c it's not my fault.
Switch to TD! lol |
I'm thinking PC :) since they now have email transfers for PC accounts, I'm really thinking of going with them - no fees!
but me = lazy |

Think again, I had mine compromised about 2 months after I got mine. Had to go into TD and get a new one.
They withdrew 400, then tried another 400 and failed, and a flag went up cause I only have a limit of 500, and they tried another 80, and were denied again.
Called when I checked my balance and was out 400, had to go into the bank and get another card, they told me it would take 4-5 business days, it was back in there the next day.
Hence I have changed my Pin and cover up the card wherever I go now. |
i don't need to think, i used to work at rbc visa cards services for 3 years, i know how these cards work.
the reason they were still compromised is because many of the atm machines at your banks still use the old technology, only limited amounts of atm machines have completely changed to CHIP based cards only so when you insert a regular card in it, it still accepts it, so what they do is they just copy the information from the magnetic stripe on your CHIP debit or credit card and then just use it the same old way like they used to compromise it before. CHIP technology is impossible to copy yet but that's if the places you go to only use chip, this way it will not be compromised ever, unfortunately it will take another 2-3 years until most businesses and banks completely switch over. |

That is strange. Maybe they missed the note on the file or something - b/c usually I do the same thing. Call and notify them that I'll be away. |

My parents had a PC account and switched it. Only b/c there weren't many PC machines around - just in the Superstore. (We never use bank machines that aren't from our specific bank). But that was in Windsor, perhaps it's different here? |

Ah, that would work a lot better. My parents had a PC account a long time ago, so maybe you couldn't then. |

probably! the reason why I didn't get it originally was because they didn't support EMT (email money transfer) - I believe now they do
better get my ass into gear about this |

just be prepared that since there are no tellers around, if you ever deposit cash amounts, they will hold your cash on you for up to 10 business days. I switched from there only because of that reason alone. They said for the first 6 months it would be that way anyhow. I wasn't willing to wait it out and went with Scotia instead and got 10 free movies with scene points through them ;)
I have also banked with CIBC and had my card copied on me. They have been good about it and have called me to tell me that it was copied and cancelled my card. The only problem I had with that is they did it on a Friday after work and so I had access to no cash for the whole weekend. It happened to me twice with CIBC actually.
I now refuse to use my bank card at gas station pumps. |

TD blocked my debit card 3 times in last 2 years.
Lucky for me, my account was already overdrawn at the time, so crooks didn't get anything.
TD promptly called me and disabled my card.
My main concern is with convenience store ATMs, these no name companies, I think these are the worst. |

I refuse to go to those b/c they charge you 3$ for a fee, plus what your bank charges you. It is a waste of money! |
