Finally have a finished concept with this that I'd like to share.
I'm trying to limit my posting a bit as well...(I'm very tempted to spam all of my WIPS but i must resist and wait for finished goods I think!)
This is a prog. track I started back in January along with my first track "Blue Twilight."
I've probably sunk about double the time into this one, as Prog. Trance seems to be my passion. (I luuurv Armin and SOT)
The concept is of my state here in Colorado...A mix between hot and cold...In my mind...this is what skiing in the summer sounds like in a prog.trance format...And I imagined alot of crashing through snowdrifts and speeding down the mountain.
Anyway...Hope you guys enjoy, and this is currently unmastered!
Feel free to critique/comment, and make sure to download if you're giving mixing feedback eh? :)

I'll be brutally honest and say you've got a tasty track with horrible drums!
The bassline is a touch loud but the arps and leads are lovely. They fit the mood you're trying capture perfectly.
Sadly the kick is completely lost and the hats are suffering from some suggested aliasing. I think the phasing you're applying to them is causing an unwanted side effect.
Rework the drums and you'll have a really upbeat dancey tune imo! |

Hi, theterran (I downloaded the track on soundcloud)
Pros: synth sound selection, the chords, harmony, progression, everything is good there.
Cons: drums are very hidden, specially the kick, and the hats are not present too, the snare is very dry, it lacks punch.
Good luck working on the track.

| I love tha melody and all those sounds how they work together, but like the others - the whole beat is a no go! Drums and percussion should be changed ....:) |

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'll have a listen through and figure out what happened. I have a feeling that my main hats were accidentally switched to the hat pickup channel...(FL has a nasty habit of switching the channel selection instead of opening it up on double click)
Main hats are not supposed to be phased, hat pickups are...Could be a my bad... :S
Will update when fixed. :) |

Some fantastic synth work. Nice melodies, soothing sounds which capture the essence of track.
It has already been stated but I must agree, the drum work and the low end need to be completely re-worked.
Everyone has a different way of working but my advice (if you choose to accept lol) would be to strip your track down (mute everything) other than the kick and bass and make sure you have these low end sounds levelled, EQ'd and filled out so they are sounding solid & crisp. Once you have done that, you can then start to build you synth layers back into the mix and making the relevant adjustments in terms of where they sit in the mix and the stereo field.
Another handy tip with percussion, especially on something as progressive as this track, try side-chaining them as it helps breathe further live which makes the track sound fuller. :) |

The hats sound fine now imo, but I'd still go for an outspoken, more punchy kick. Also not a very big fan of the snare drum.
But the synths are spot on for me. Really digging the atmosphere. |
