Improving sound quality for youtube

Hey guys,
I just made a "video" (OK, actually just a photo to go along with a song) in Windows Movie Maker and uploaded it to youtube, but the sound quality is quite shi....not good. I started with a hi-quality WAV, but somewhere during the compression/upload/conversion process, the quality turned to crap and I'm not seeing any options in WMM to export at a higher audio quality. Any suggestions for how to improve or maximize the sound quality? Maybe another movie-making program (preferably freeware)?

If you compare that to the 192kbps verion on my myspace page (in my sig, first song), you can hear how badly the audio was degraded.

...lol i do the same process... i notice the wmv cuts off some of my highs, but yours sounds better than mine. |

Well, maybe I reacted too soon and the video wasn't completely processed or something because it sounds much better now than it did just after it uploaded. Also, there was no option to select different resolutions before, but there is now. It still doesn't sound great, though, so if anyone has any suggestions for improving it, I'm all ears.

| in my sig, check out lumen let me know. ive had worse high drops in my past videos though. honestly i think you would need to use something other than WMM, maybe someone else can help you out in detail. |

| i know im not tripping out... in my past videos highs would drop out, a dip in the high frequencies.... i've always used the same process though, through wmm. i dont really mind though because i get my point across and im not sharing hi-fidelity files through the medium. |

Good find! It looks like maybe saving the video as a high-definition movie (1080p) might do the trick. I'm trying that right now (with WMM), but it's going to take a while to upload.
edit: uploaded an HD version, which sounds much better (in 720p or 1080p]:

Im having problems to upload videos on yt also, my bass is always farting no matter what i do.
I`ve tried various stuff but it doesnt work, bass is almost always distorded and whitenoise is clipping all the way...any sugestions how to convert and upload it propperly? Im using WMM too. |

I've heard the only way to get true HD on Youtube is to load a WAV into Adobe Flash, export it as a high quality .swf file (same file format as Youtube videos) and upload that. It doesn't have to convert or compress the file in any way since it's already in the appropriate format.
Otherwise you're going to wind up with pretty bad quality, though their HD uploader isn't awful. |

That's a good tip - thanks! Are there any freeware apps that will create Flash movies for those who don't have Adobe? |

| Not that I know of, I used to animate a lot and I'm almost positive .swf is a specific file extension for shockwave flash files created in Adobe Flash. It's probably too expensive just for the sake of Youtube files. |
