Was afraid this may be passed up by some as Cio is not quite an established name quite yet (though seeing as how her sound is quite pigeonholed, even by techno standards, might not help that change much). Anyway, I thought I'd post this as I really think that this is something worth checking out. Part ambient, part dub-influenced techno, this mix is all about mood and atmosphere. Highly recommend it!

| Good to know someone else also listens to her stuff. The Prologue label is really good for this dub/minimal techno. There's also a set of hers on r_co's soundcloud that was very good as well. Wish this stuff were played more often in clubs. |

It's interesting, because for a while now I have wondered how exactly this kind of music would work in a club. I guess it's all about the dynamics of a large sound system, as to me this music generally lends itself very well to home listening.
Would be awesome for me I guess, I don't know about the majority of club goers though. Definitely have to have an open mind for this music.
Edit: well I guess not all of it. some of he stuff in the mix is definitely suited for a club, although I guess I'd be referring more to the earlier/much later parts of the set, and to her/Prologue's sound in general. |

alot of women seem to be coming out with good music nowadays as far as techno goes...ie dinky. |

Gotta have the right crowd to get dub/minimal to work in a club.
This sound doesn't work because 80% of the crowd are scenesters/randoms and the only sound that gets them to dance is a hard kick and bass. At least in the US, this is the case.
Dunno how it is overseas. I know Echospace has to re-edit their tracks to have a harder kick/bass when playing out, even while playing at Berghain. Slam plays some dub techno early in the night, and Cio D'Or obviously does as well, but I've never heard dub techno played at 1 am. It's always relegated to opener sets or terrible morning time slots at outdoor festivals, which is a shame.
It's probably just me growing old, but what is wrong with a bunch of ppl tapping their feet, stroking their chins, and listening to some dubby sounds on a dancefloor?:) :( |
