Just been putting the finishing touches and working on mixing/mastering on this. I would really appreciate any comments regarding style/mixing/techniques/etc.... May post a more cleaned up version in the future.
This is more of an attempt for myself from moving away from predictable repetitive melodies in progressive trance while creating a sorta melancholic uplifting atmosphere.
I love the artistry in this piece, but I can't seem to feel the mixdown yet.
The low end feels very weak to me. The kick especially feels weak to me.
The breakbeat break is awesome, but should drop back into the track sooner. The break around 5:40 feels like a completely different track though.
Your build down is entirely too long for a release version in my opinion. While it may work on an LP, it doesn't work well on singles.
BTW, I'm assuming you'd make another mix as a club mix once you worked everything out. It's not very DJ friendly in this style as it takes so long to hear the kick or the bass line come in.
The mix also feels a bit quiet. Though, that may be a good thing if a label signs it, since it leaves head room for mastering it.
I'll leave some timed comments on SC as well.
