More about our guests:
Clovis (Culprit)
Born and raised in Los Angeles, for the past six years Clovis has been diligently honing his own unique and refined sound, which draws from the entire spectrum of dance music, as a DJ and selector. Of French and Japanese heritage, yet absolutely American, he grew up with a father who was a voracious consumer of music, a true aficionado, and who introduced him to everything from Miles Davis to Philip Glass at a very young age. Music was a constant at home for his entire upbringing, a passion he has embraced and continues today, drawing on those early influences and the sounds that most inspired and moved him, and applying them in his search for deeper and more experimental flavors of dance music while always maintaining an appreciation for the essentials that move a floor. After befriending the Droog collective in 2007, Clovis found a group of like-minded individuals who allowed him to expand his horizons and gave him the opportunity to play some of the best parties in Los Angeles. He has since DJ'd alongside such respected influences as Magda, Matthew Dear, Three, Matt Tolfrey and a host of others, both in Los Angeles' biggest clubs like the Avalon but equally at home at the intimate Standard rooftop or early morning after-hours affairs. His strength has long lied in his ability to understand the relationship between the right music and the right moment, with the versatility with which to take advantage of that in a variety of environments. 2010 will see Clovis beginning his own production work in the studio, with original material forthcoming, and an expanding repertoire of DJ dates throughout the US and abroad.
Andrei Faji
Andrei Faji lives and works in San Francisco. By day he is an entrepreneur running a startup web-based company as well as a pr/marketing consultant, by night he is a deejay and artist working on his own production work. Musically, he has an ability to hone in on sounds that are both ahead of their time and hauntingly familiar, all while maintaing a distinct voice.
Andrei was born in Timisoara, Romania under the oppressive dictatorship of Nicolae Ceausescu. When he was only two years of age, his parents escaped Romania for political asylum to Nurnberg, Germany. Though Andrei’s roots are undoubtedly European, his flavor of electronic music is mostly inspired by the sounds of early Detroit techno, Chicago house music, and then later by the dub movement.
His influences include, but are not limited to:
Theo Parrish, DI Indicator, Kerri Chandler, Ron Trent, Move D, Ame, Moodyman, Moritz von Oswald, Larry Heard, Francois Kevorkian, LTJ Bukem and David Mancuso |
