| Speaking of your track, MSZ, my gf wanted to know how you produced it. Like what gear or software? She liked the last 2 thirds like I did :p |

homie J, i am a Reason 4 user. check out my myspace, everything there has been done in the box with reason 4. great piece of kit for about 250$.
now percussion wise, you would have to dig for your own samples and sample cds. |

Takes sooo long to go through, by the time you find something, you forgot what you wanted it for :(
I swear this is why I gave up producing, hahaha. |

ok i stand corrected then, i guess you CAN have too much if its affecting your workflow. i would suggest, to weed out a bunch, you dont need a ton. just a few different type of textures for hi hats lets say. create some folders to divide them and dont stress too much about the aspect, the other elements are way more important, but ofcourse its important to find percs that fit. The thing i like with the drum machine in reason is A: it behaves like a hardware drum machine so its intuitive and B: you can do things very quickly like change tone and pitch on the percs so you can tune them better to the track, which i do a lot.
also, the way you're previewing the samples matters a bit, i know some are very picky with this. you want to go through the sample very quickly and not have to select it first to hear it. |
