Most players in pro sports do make closer to 1 mil than the millions the top players make. And Kelly not for nothing but who are you to decide what they should be making? Not to mention some arbitrary number like $500,000.
If they didn't get the money the owners would just pocket more profit. Is that any better?
And finally your team is the worst in all of pro sports it terms of highest salary per player!
Also to every one else crying about what other people are making. Stop crying and worry about yourself and some not some idiot you'll probably have nothing to do with!

I can write whatever f*cking number I want. They dont even deserve that much if you ask me, they are playing SPORTS for F*cks sake. Why do teachers get paid $40,000/yr and these s get paid assloads of money that half of them cant even manage?
I obviously dont decide salaries, I am giving my opinion, which a lot of people share to be quite honest! And no, I have never agreed that the Yankees should pay a small nations' net worth for a player! I think its all dumb, and ticket prices show that.
On that note, I am not complaining about the man's car. If he wants to spend money on toys, so be it, its his own damn money! My focus was on the outrageous salaries people make.

truthfully many athletes make the league minimum and some athletes like women soccer players and lacrosse players barely make a living. the reason you see people making astronomical salaries in some sports is it's the nature of the business. it's not the athletes being complete s it's because some sports are big business and that has to do with television viewership and most importantly the demographic. a company like proctor gamble is going to want to pump millions of dollars into superbowl tv spots because they know at a specific time that they can reach close to 110m consumers in key buying demographics. also unlike a popular tv drama, statistically people watch sports live so the risk of people taping it and skipping through the commercials is significantly less. honestly sports is just a medium to reach out to consumers in key demographics and whether the athletes get paid or not somebody is going to get paid and you better believe these businesses get high returns on their investments through sponsorship. since players provide the entertainment and draw in the consumers these companies want why should't they be paid well? no average teacher, doctor or lawyer is going to bring in that number of eyeballs and help generate so much money.
as for ticket prices that should be blamed on the team/league, between the league/team sponsorship deals and tv contracts teams should be able to pay their players and cover some operation costs. if anyone wants to talk we can get into the financials of a team but overall if people can pay $75 for wwe wrestling or phantom of the opera they should pay $75 for basketball, football,etc.
as for them squandering their money, we can't make blanket statements that they are all bad with money. obviously many aren't the most responsible but when a 23 year old goes from making nothing to millions of dollars overnight and s/he has not background in finances they will definitely make mistakes and more times the not the biggest mistake is giving someone else signatory power so others are pissing their money away. i'm sure most of us have made a financial blunder nothing in the neighborhood of millions of dollars but when you make $50k is buying a $1k pair of shoes really responsible behavior? I don't think so.
