Buying a laptop

So I'm going to be ordering a laptop this weekend or my sister, who will be starting college studies in a couple of weeks. for the past 4 years she had a Lenovo Thinkpad T61 with an Intel Dual Core processor. This laptop, which has been provided by the school but now belongs to us, will be going to my mother/me if I ever need to use it. Considering that it was a top-of-the-line machine when it came out, it can still compete fairly well with a lot of the laptops that are out there today.

Anyway, for my sister's laptop, I found his one and would like to buy it:

The Source has it on sale for $750 until August the 18th. It has an Intel Core I5 430M processor, 4GB of DDR3 memory and one hing I really like is that it has a 7200rpm hard drive (500GB). It's a 14" which she needs because she'll be taking it to school every day, and aside from the lack of Bluetooth support and a dedicated graphics card, neither of which she really needs, it's pretty damn perfect.

But I though I'd consult with the c0r before going ahead and buying this computer. Are any of you aware of any better deals out there? Ideally would like to spend less, but my sister really doesn't want anything bigger, i.e. 15.6". Sony sells a Vaio for $900 with a Core I3-350M (difference is very small, I know) but it's $150 more so I couldn't justify it. This is pretty much the best deal I could find, but I was wondering if anybody is aware of anything better?

You're all useless, you know that?

point? Sure, I'd rather get her a Sony or Toshiba, or even a Mac if I could afford it, but this HP is a pretty sweet deal IMO.

Of all places you chose the source? Don't buy from store like best buy, future shop and especially the source.

Buy it directly from the company. ie their interwebz site.

Tigerdirect.ca is perfect, great prices and quality that is present at all times.

The Source is by far the best deal out there. Future Shop has this laptop for $850 and most other places are $900. The Source has it for $750 until Wednesday, which is why I'd like to buy it from there. Also, I don't see what difference it makes where I buy it from? As long as the price is good. I'm still debating though whether I should buy a warranty from the Source or if I should buy a HP Care Pack.

You're maybe right, but i don't want to crack my head. I'd rather let you learn your own lesson and deal with it or maybe you are getting a great deal.

And what would that lesson be? I'm not looking to get into an argument over this, but if there is some important information I should know I'd appreciate you not being a dick and sharing it with me. Look, I have my perceptions of The Source as well, and they are quite negative. It's a pretty sorry excuse for an electronics store in this day and age. Yes, but this is a good ing deal and I'd like to know if for some reason you feel otherwise. I'd rather not make an $800+ mistake if I don't have to.

Buy an Asus, imo

Didn't mean to sound aggressive. Before The Source it was named Radio Shack. Long story short, they weren't doing good. Almost went backrupt or did and got bought and they changed name for a "new beginning". People working there aren't tech, they are sales men. If you think about buying a computer on sale, you can't just say it's all in your favor. It's going to be an out dated lap top in a few months. The laptop may have bugs and ect.

If you think it's a great deal do it, but do some research. That means use google and you can also sign up in a laptop/desktop forum and ask it there.

I've had one somewhat like the one you want to buy for a couple of months. Suits me perfectly. Wi-fi, webcam, intel i3, I can even play Starcraft II on it.

Never had problems with it.

So yea, it's probably very price-worthy.

My girlfriend has a Sony Vaio and peformance is just about the same.
