Because voting "yes" worked out so well  |

^^ your point makes no sense.. you can't run an expanding city by voting down expansion programs, trimming/slashing services across the board, while not having a plan for the future!
also, it were actions of another conservative that emptied this city's coffers and got it to a state that it's in today.. Mike Harris! to assume that we must elect another conservative to get us out of the mess they created is just asinine.

Toronto doesnt have a revenue problem, it has a spending problem.
Also the federal and provincial governments have both hinted for years that more money might be available for Toronto if the city cut its spending to reasonable limits. If i were in senior levels of government i wouldnt be giving toronto much money in the state its in now.
Socialist policies over the last 7 years have clearly failed toronto. It's time for something else. |

Are you kidding me? All Miller has done since he entered the mayor's office is raise spending. Mike Harris didn't spend away Toronto's money, he was the premier of ONTARIO (and did exactly what was needed to reverse the horrible job done by another NDP pal of yours, Bob Rae), not the mayor. Do you understand economics 101? Spend less than you make. When you're deep in debt and financial trouble (like Toronto is), the answer is NOT to spend more. The answer is... Are you ready for this? SPEND LESS! Apparently, Rob Ford is the only person on city council who understands the concept of debt reduction.
More to your point, expanding spending in an expanding city... Fine, raise spending with the expansion of the city. But you have to make sure that you're INVESTING the money (see: infrastructure), not pissing it away on wasteful and unproductive segments of society (see: unions, poor people, social services, raises for city council). |

I feel sorry for the folk of Toronto..no one really worthy to vote for...
I'm also surprised that so many people would vote for Ford..the guy is such a one trick pony...If I HAD to choose, I guess I'd go for Smitherman but I live in Vaughan so my opinion means nada...
I do work in Toronto and my job is closely related to government so I do have some vested interest. I really hope Ford doesn't take it... |

It was Mike Harris' offloading of services (welfare in particular)from the province level down to municipalities that single-handedly bankrupted this city!

You're kidding, right?? After like 50 years of neglect, DM brought about the biggest expansion to the transit system (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transit_City). Also brought about the green change to the garbage disposal problem. These programs have to be paid for..
Your last piece about the poor/social service, or "unproductive segments of society" as you so eloquently put it, I won't even dignify with a response. Ugh. |

Downloading is not what is bankrupting toronto. It is excessive spending on grants, studies, union raises, council raises, the record hiring of unionized staff under miller etc.
As for Transit City, the project is a piece of crap and i hope the whole thing gets scrapped. We need subways, trains, busways and highways, NOT slow and cumbersome streetcars. |

If we couldn't afford the services, why weren't they cut?
Economics 101, spend less than you make. Bingo Bango, secret to success right there.

The green bin program is a waste of money, time, and resources. The transit plan is a waste of money on streetcars that create more congestion, which is fine, because under the Miller plan, he'd just hire a bunch of union lackeys to track the amount of smog in the city and give him an excuse to spend more money on greenhouse gas reductions.

When you can't retort, why bother... Right? |

Yes. Unions have single handedly bankrupted the city. |
