do you guys have any suggestions on what midi controllers one should should use to make sets on ableton as well as play live?
also, any midi controllers with additional functions that can come in handy apart from just the mixing aspect?
your suggestions would be appreciated.
thank you in advance. |

| VCM600 with an APC40. That's two controllers but work well together as they each control different aspects of Live's envioronment. If I were to choose one I'd go for the VCM600 but if you don't have a lot of money, the APC40 may be better to start with. |

I reckon an APC-40 and a VCM 600 will be overkill, not to mention very expensive. If you want something more DJ oriented then go for the VCM, if you want something to give you more control over clip launching go for the APC.
If you want full control over your clips as well as a mixer-style controller, then I'd get a VCM and a Launchpad (the Launchpad is less than half the price of an APC). |

Good choices. I like the APC-40.
Purchased Touch OSC for iphone and ipad. I've been hearing good things about this program. |

Yeah if you want to spend 5K for it. Which imo is overkill. Good luck convincing a club owner in letting you bring that thing into his/her dj booth. |

Agreed,
The 4D is great don't get me wrong but for me it's more of a toy for people who have a lot of disposable income. (not hating just stating a fact).
It's expensive and unless you're a headline dj you're not going to be able to A) request it and B) Bring it in yourself. If you're a resident perhaps. But most of the time this thing is left at home and brought to house parties where you'll be scared less of anyone getting too close to it.
It's a great unit, but it's costly.
Just in the same way i think people with the S4 are going to have problems rocking up to a club with that thing. Time will tell. |
