Wait, so you wear a scarf to look pretentious and you date a girl whose parents came all the way from China to the exotic Southern hemisphere? And you study a social science?

...

LET GO OF THIS BODY THAT DOESN'T BELONG TO YOU, DOPPELGÄNGER!

Edit: Wait, what do you mean by "dressing smartly"?

My point is you can go to dinner with one of your male associates, dress smartly, take care of your appearance, study stuff that interests you, and STILL be straight. :eyes:

This is because being gay is first and foremost a sexual orientation and not determined by other lifestyle choices. So is being straight for that matter.

Sure, you could. But by the same token you could have sex with lots of men and still be straight, as long as you weren't really attracted to them.

Nobody can peer into your brain and see your sexual orientation, so people are going to draw inferences about it based on your behavior.

God damn ta is way to smart for covert homosexuality

That's a great point - and another example is a gay man who grows up having girlfriends, gets married, but then one day comes out as gay, having never really been straight at all despite his experiences. So my argument is that the reverse is also true; a person can know their sexuality without having any sexual experiences.

This also opens the door to all the rest of the loosely defined notions of sexuality - does "sex" mean someone was penetrated? Someone orgasm'd? Can it involve any combination of body parts? The truth is the meaning of sex is interpreted differently person to person. This is why I feel that sexuality is more a determinate of what you identify with rather than what you do.

Another great point which I feel is based on the idea that often one's behaviour and one's identity are in sync with each other. The thing is, with the immense variability in the behaviours exhibited by individual gays and straights, making judgments on their sexuality based on their non-sex-related behaviour is unreliable. Knowing this I prefer to reserve my judgments - I can't help thinking someone is gay or straight based on what I observe, but I accept that I don't know.

Interestingly my best friend, who is actually gay, is annoyed at how it seems you need to subscribe to the "campy culture" of the local gay scene in order to fit in. He's not like that at all though!

Not at all. I just hooked up with 190lbs of solid Phillipino hunk from the military who has never been with a dude. TOTALLY satisfied for a month.
