I sometimes hear music by producers and wonder how in the world could you dance to this other than flail your arms which makes me think too many producers just don't know how to dance and make dance music. Just curious actually. Maybe you guys don't need mixing lessons but rather some dance lessons. Maybe that is why some genres are sucking hard right now. Too many pasty white kids with no sense of rhythm trying to write music for an environment they don't understand.

Genres evolve and change over time, dude. Trance isn't specifically made to be danced to anymore.

lol so why is everyone so concerned about selling their on dj distribution websites. I honestly don't see the point of EDM not being danced to. That is the problem with the genre is that it has turned into lame soft adult contemporary music for pregnant mothers to do yoga to. There was a time when trance had balls.

Look at where trance gets played nowadays. Huge festivals with tens of thousands of people. All they really do is jump up in the air and raise their hands, there really isn't any dancing going on.
There is not that sense of intimacy that you get when playing a small club with just a few hundred people which, ironically, is usually where the dancing takes place. You rarely see anyone playing trance in a small club setting anymore. In some ways trance has become the arena rock of dance music.
I hated playing festivals back in the day for exactly that reason. In a club you get a sense of connection with the audience, but those festivals with thousands upon thousands of people are just too impersonal. I've heard other veteran DJ's in genres other than trance voice these very same concerns.

Exactly. There is no room to dance massive festivals except where you can't hear . The dancers are usually off in a small tent, or side room. I take issue with being cramp up with a load of people making me borderline claustrophobic. Not to mention someone always bumps into your and you can't move your arms more than 6 inches in front of your without touching some sweaty ugly chick. I like moving around and the flailing of arms you people call dancing.

I move to it and if I can move to it, I can see people dancing to it. I don't, however, think that "dance" music is strictly meant for dancing and I think the crap that is made strictly for dancing is mostly hack-stain pap.

lol this is nothing but old farts saying trance music is dead because it doesn't sound like it did 10-15 years ago. I'm pretty sure someone who grows up listening to classic rock might frown upon, say, Muse or Sigur Ros, but it's still good music even if it's not "about" the same things classic rock used to represent.
Trance =/= dance music. Get over it.

I tend to dance more when music is not around, and I think thats because the rhythm in my head is just stronger than most music lol.
The problem is once that rhythm goes into a sequencer it usually dies rather fast.

The vast majority of Festivals are cack and my favourite performances from DJ's are when they are in an intimate setting not massive rooms, preferably a small black room, packed with people (jacking) with maybe a strobe (if you're very lucky).
