Commonwealth Games: 12 Million for 10 Days, is it worth it?

The commonwealth games are coming to manchester, and the city has spent £12,000,000 on the event lasting ten days, money well spent? personally i find it insulting when manchester, being the size would probably have a high number of unemployed and esp homeless people, and then some sporting event comes up and all of a sudden, 12 million pounds is found lying around to put up banners and tidy gardens to make us look good!
They say its created many jobs, but surely they'll be tempory jobs and also bring in millions in business, but i doubt that'd out-way the cost they've spent!
Money well spent? personally i think so, id this country was perfect then i wouldnt mind, but we're not, and when we have out own resisdents sleeping on the floor and the trains in half chaos, road a mess, well we all no whats wrong and the smell of the world camera on us for 5mins we have to make a gleeming impression and spend 12,000,000, well i dissagree :p

Yeah well it is good for our country. It brings in tourism which we need atm. And we cna use the facilities after, so it will bring on british sport. Oh and 12million, there is 500million viewers, just thing how easy they will make that back :)
Trust me we shoudl come out with a profit after this event. Its the same as the olympics, just a bit smaller :) |

tis difficult to say. i can see both sides of the story but at the end of the day sum of that £12million could and probably should have been spent on the ppl of manchester that really need it...
oh, and man city are getting the stadium after the games have finished....total waste of money there! |

Well its great to see the good old councils of the UK ing burning the money of hard working people :mad: .
It really ing winds me up, if u ask me the colonists can hold it in one of their countries, Manchester is a mess, it has some of the highest crime rates in the UK just look at Moss Side, and parts of Salford, don't u think it would be better to invest money into to schools i.e better teachers and facilities and more importantly improving policing in the areas I'd rather see 100 odd kids have a better childhood and not end up lying on the side of the pavement full of bullets over some rocks of crack, then an athletics compitition.
Also it could buy more hospital beds improve the transport system, but the government are more arsed about inviting any old ing joker into the UK where they can steal, hang on the streets, create trouble for free, free housing, free bills, free clothing, free food, and they have the top of range mobile phones. See this is where I can complain my family ing came to this country legally on a ferry from Dublin to Liverpool they had to write to the British goverment to be accepted have their records checked, and got huddled into some tiny room in Liverpool promised work when there was all, well it moved on and they worked their ing arses off on building sites all over the UK, paid their taxes, But the British government don't really care about people like my family, they'd rather let any old ing joker into the UK, I bet Gordon Brown sits there and says 'right we can have another 100,000 Albanians in the UK if we put up that by £5 we won't worry about housing people born in the UK and who are British citizens on the street after all they can beg', its a ing joke, half them aren't asylum seekers thats the biggest thing I find offensive, if they were geniune cases then yes, also wheres the Women and children? cos I ain't seen anyone.
Back to the subject of this athletics, I think its time the sponsers donated a lot more money into it and the countries that take part, not British Tax payers I couldn't give a flying who runs 800m I couldn't give two s who wins the long jump.

| well its created loads of construction jobs for the past 2 years, and massive asda got built next to the main arena which employs 800 staff, the main rail station has had money given to it by the comenwealth games people, improving the station for everyone that uses it, and its a lot better now than it was 2 years ago, and itwell worth it in terms of tourism i fink |

secondly, its manchester, and city taking over it, it'll be burnt to the floor hosting 2nd division football within 4 years :p
Finally I don't see the point in the games, the commenwealth does sweet fa now apart from give the queen an excuse to do nothing |

now sorry here but ive had enough of people bad mouthing the queen! not only did she travel all the way upto manchester, she waved to the crowd from her limo, like effort! i no the wave wasnt a full on wave, more like a little poke into thin-air but the thought was there, and she got out the car! i mean come on! after getting out sat down, didnt move and left again! what more can u ask!
