well lets see here, i've got adsl but out adsl is different from other adsl types.. my max d/l is 55 kb/s and u/l is 14 kb/s .. the problem is when someone uploads from me my own d/l rate drops to 6 kb/s !!! and if i open more then 1 slot i won't be able to do anything at all!! |

Here's the way it should be:
14.4K Analogue Modem - 64K ISDN: 1 slot
128K ISDN - 384K broadband: 2 - 3 slots
512K broadband - 1.5M broadband: 4 - 8 slots
over 1.5M broadband/T1: 10+ slots
Anyone have any otehr way to do it that's better? |

I have found some (though admittedly not many) people on 56K with a track noone else has got. If they had no slots open noone else could get that track/rip/set.
I can see where you're coming from though; when I had 56K, if someone was downloading from me (and getting an OK speed) it made browsing the internet painfully slow, let alone doing my own downloads. Definitely no more than one slot for 56k'ers IMO.
I think it should be raised to a min. of 500MB share and min. slots should be:
56k: 1
ISDN: 2 slots
Cable/DSL/T1/T3: 3 slots |

| id say it depends on bandwidth but for people with faster connections then id say it would have to be 2 slots! |

I agree with evil_bastard on this one. :)
On our hungarian hub there are only cable/adsl/t1/t3 users, and the minimum is 3 slots. |

i'm on an isdn 64K. when downloading surfing gets toooooo slow. i don't care though. when uploading, it doesn't get any slow at all! neither will my download speed fall...
i still don't get what you're talking about...
what i'm trying to say here is: upload and download are two different channels on isdn & on every other line. they don't affect each other no matter how hard you push them! and i think it is exactly the same with 56K and any other line...
how the f*ck could upload channel slow down you download channel??? is this really possible? at least on my line no such thing happens...
i have three slots open on mine and 12 gigs of trance shared and i am TOTALLY HAPPY !!! ppl download from me with no prob...
56=1slot
isdn64/128=2slot
dsl and above=3slots |

Belive me (and us), it does happen. And I have cable connection.
Maybe I'll post a screenshot of my DU Meter graph later when I'm donwloading, to show you how it works. |

well the newest version of dc++ has a option that fixes the upload affecting download problem, in stead of sending the data in 16k lumps it sends it in 1 k lumps, and after using this it seams that my donwloads dont slow down that much when uploading.

| My upload is 32k on my ADSL. I use 2 slots so I can give a reasonable upload rate of 15-16k/second. I might change it to 3 slots but that would be an upload of 10k/sec. But I think 2 slots is the best bet.. |
