I'd be willing, but the What Are You Reading thread already kind of serves that purpose, being that you can go back to previous posts and comment on books that people have read. So it's kind of a giant gyrating book club with everything happening at once.
Plus the age differences on TA vary quite a bit, and quite frankly some people are so well-read compared to others choosing a book that everyone is willing to read at the same time is going to be a major pain in the ass. |
yeah that's a good point. i just saw that a lot of people tend to be reading the same things so thought it may be possible. but you're right about choosing a book everyone will be willing to read. like i noted before - that book thread exhibits a lot of interest in murakami so i figured his new novel would be a good starting point...but i got the date wrong.
and at the same time, i consider myself to be somewhat well-read but maybe only for my age group. i've read pretty much everything by certain authors - murakami, dfw, nabokov, faulkner, hemingway, and updike, among a few others. and then i've read a whole host of modern classics but probably could not be considered 'well-read' i guess. |

| I've read one book in 2010. Just one. Have barely watched any films either. Don't know what the hell is wrong with me. |

So what have you been doing instead of reading and watching? |

Exercise, I suppose. Now, if I'm not doing something active and physical every day I tend to feel restless and wasteful.
A lot of it is to do with my lifestyle and finances, but I don't feel like I should be reading something all the time. With music it still feels like there's so much out there that I haven't explored that any time not spent exploring is wasted. I don't get that feeling with literature that I'm still learning. |

IMO, the film industry has sucked bad this year.
The only movies I've seen this summer are Inception and The Expendables. Both had nothing but in the previews.
I think the movie industry is going to take a big hit this fall. |

I've gotten back into reading lately - I'm almost reading as much as I did when I was younger. I really enjoy seeing the "What Are You Reading" thread bumped and, perusing the recent pages of that thread, I noticed that a lot of TAs seem to read similar stuff. I came up with the idea of a sort of TA Book Club because of that.
If there's enough interest (or any, for that matter) I think it could be a lot of fun. Many of you guys that post on here seem to have 1)intelligent insights 2)interesting opinions 3)a way with words.
Figured I'd test the waters with this thread and then make a thread and get it underway if there's enough people willing to join in. So I guess just mention whether or not you'd be interested and then we can get into specifics. |
So you can see beyond the idiot factor? :)
Me too.
I'm in. |

I don't really go to the cinema and watch blockbuster films anyway. It's like buying from the Beatport Top 10. |

Interesting. I feel that way with literature, and I'm more or less indifferent to music lately. |

| Just finishing "Water for Elephants" It pretty good I got all emo and my eyes watered at some point. Hal would be proud of me. As far as movies, summer is always , generally they only release good movies in the fall so it will be fresh on the Academy's mind. |
