US wasted billions in rebuilding Iraq

I would love the Iraq war supporters to explain this utter failure. The fact of the matter is, we've spent more money in Iraq and Afghanistan, uselessly I might add, than to rebuild New Orleans. Or improve our country in a myriad of ways.
| quote: | KHAN BANI SAAD, Iraq (AP) -- A $40 million prison sits in the desert north of Baghdad, empty. A $165 million children's hospital goes unused in the south. A $100 million waste water treatment system in Fallujah has cost three times more than projected, yet sewage still runs through the streets
As the U.S. draws down in Iraq, it is leaving behind hundreds of abandoned or incomplete projects. More than $5 billion in American taxpayer funds has been wasted -- more than 10 percent of the some $50 billion the U.S. has spent on reconstruction in Iraq, according to audits from a U.S. watchdog agency.
That amount is likely an underestimate, based on an analysis of more than 300 reports by auditors with the special inspector general for Iraq reconstruction. And it does not take into account security costs, which have run almost 17 percent for some projects. |

These wars have been nothing more than a rip from the start. Look at KBR/Haliburton.
They have a no bid COST PLUS contract. The more they spend, the more they make.
This was never about terrorism or WMDs.
It was about corporations stealing from the American people.
The profits from 9/11 just keep rolling into the accounts of the Bush/Cheney crowd and
I still think it was an inside job.

Really.. I don't even know anymore what (real) objective they had in the first place. Was it for oil? Was it for their 'never ending empire'? Was it for future plans to get rid of the 'threat' Iraq/Iran imposed?
The real question is, was there anything the people could have done to prevent this? If people really knew what an idiot Bush is when he was running for president, do you think things would have turned out the same? I mean, it seems to me (as much as I like Obama) that he is just continuing the whole 'effort' in the Middle East that Bush started. Anyway, do people really have a say in anything? That's what I want to know. Because if our government doesn't work for us, and makes US pay for bull we didn't start, much less, know about.. then that's not a good government imho. |

| Countries like Japan are blowing the US out of the water when it comes to infrastructure. We're rebuilding Iraq better than our own country! |

| Japan is caring about themselves and not Mexico (or any other 3rd world country). |

Dont you ever wonder what that is? I mean this is a huge deal and I think more and more Americans should start asking these questions. |

I think that is exactly what they had in mind, to stay there as long as they can until everyone forgets why they are even there anymore. Iran is indeed in the agenda and it has always been.

He is just another politician like the rest of them. He may talk and act a little different but at the end of the day he is just a same old politician.

This has been a huge problem with recent and most previous American presidents. Instead of looking after their own backyard they go and stick their nose into others and sadly they are now paying the price economically. I really do believe it is time for the Americans to stop being a world police and take care of it's own people. |

Col. Jon Christensen, who took over as commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Gulf Region District this summer, said the federal agency has completed more than 4,800 projects and is rushing to finish 233 more. Some 595 projects have been terminated, mostly for security reasons
