| Saw the new Resident Evil today. Mila Jovovich & Ali Larter shooting zombies is a plus, but the whole movie felt like just another episode. |

Prince of Persia was very decent if you're the forgiving sort. It was a predictably light-hearted romp with excellent production value and sets, and all the expected pacing of one of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. The video-game elements were sparse and well-integrated, even if the insipid story drew on for a good half-hour too long. But elements of it keep you quite drawn in, like the excellent stunt work and inventive character design, largely lifted straight from the games of course.
The acting was... heh, well, Ben Kingsley was in it, and as the only thing going for it really, he fell quite flat, though this probably has far more to do with writing than delivery. By the end of the movie I was plain ing tired from hearing about the Princess Guardian's sacred this-or-that: everything was goddamned sacred to this bitch, it was extremely tiresome and cliche to a point of comedy.
Essentially, it was a fun movie if you're able to kind of cast your mind back for 2 hours and get over the fact that the upper-echelons of the Persian empire are ubiquitously blonde-haired, blue-eyed, and have British accents; Because, ya know, Royalty always does. |

| Marmaduke is quite easily one of the worst movies I have ever seen. William H. Macy humiliates himself sputtering mindless dialogue like, "Let's have a dog surfing contest" in the plot-line hijacked, raped, and tortured from 1985's Better Off Dead. |

Whatever rationalization I could provide, be it obtaining a salient counterpoint from which all other movies may be judged or simply as a gesture of diplomacy to appease a new co-worker who happened to be a single mother with incredibly poor tastes and an 8000+ strong DVD collection, I am certain it satisfied a masochistic dint somewhere on a very subconscious level.
It had William H. ing Macy, for 's sake! How was I supposed to know he'd lost a bet compelling him to perform as the cliche' stodgy yet eccentric boss, only capable running his company into the ground?! I suspect the lost wager, judging from the film's atrocious regard for animal safety and how children might falsely infer the relative strength of a cat's tail, of having something to do with Michael Vick's return to the NFL. Oh, and don't get me started on the stilted cluster- of editing and acting which aptly describes the interaction between him and Lee Pace. While both are playing in the kiddie pool, they are remarkably out of their depth. |
