Me singing - is the melody good enough?

Guys a quick rough take of the vocals by me - so my singer has something to practice with ready for recording.

How is the melody for you though?

Really liking this, Mr. Butler. If you want, I can get nit-picky with some timed comments regarding some parts which sounded pitchy, lacked appropriate diction, or could use some additional finesse to make for clarity, but generally speaking - as proof of concepts go - consider the concept proven.

Thx a lot Ed

My vocals are only a rough quickly whispered (so as not to disturb the kids) edit for the real singer to practice with until she herselfg records, so I'm not worried about my bad timing or pitcy - but would be interested if you think the main vocal melody itself is catchy enough.....:stongue:

Definitely catchy, but seriously, your vocals aren't horrible. Regardless, definitely looking forward to the finished product.

The melody is definitely catchy, as is the song in general, but I agree with EZ that the intelligibility of the lyrics may be a problem for the singer, or not, depending on how you want him/her to sing it. IME many singers have a strong tendency to sing it the way they're used to hearing it. That's why I never provide a vocal with my scratch tracks, and instead provide just a melody played by a piano that they can work out in their own vocal style. Of course, that isn't always the case and YMMV, so just consider it food for thought!

But, this should be a very cool song when it's finished - can't wait to hear it!

so I'm hearing from you and Ed that some lyrics make no sense - mmm, I'm wondering if I'll get away with it - a lot of songs make no sense to me!

Any specific forensic titbits greatfuly received.

No, no, no - what I was saying is that I simply couldn't understand what the lyrics were in many places, which shouldn't necessarily be a problem for the singer assuming that she will have a lyric sheet in front of her. My point was simply that the whispery manner in which this is sung may lead the singer to sing it in the same style out of habit after many listens, if that makes sense. But, that may actually be the way you want her to sing it, in which case you can ignore me completely! ;) If not, then I would suggest stressing to her that you sang it in a whispery fashion because the kids were asleep etc. and just let her know how you would actually like her to sing it.

I'm just saying this from experience - I've had many singers misinterpret what I was looking for, and then it can be a bit of work to get them to just sing it naturally once they've gotten accustomed to singing it another way. Hopefully that all makes sense!

I think it's a track with great potential, that's already sounding very good. There's obviously room for the polish, but pointless saying that at this stage really.

The fact that you won't use your own voice in your tracks infuriates me. There's a wonderful, and very unique tone to it that with a tiny amount of effort could sound awesome.

You're mad.

+1

If you have the mike for it, try it with your voice.

You know, I think this track would benefit greatly from a properly recorded session of your vocals! That isn't to say they sound bad right now, but they could be improved on when you have the time. Why not do two versions - one set of vocals from you, and the other with female vocals.

I've left you some more comments on soundcloud. It's great to hear from you again, Richard. By the way, I may not be around the anjunabeats forums once the mandatory Facebook login arrives.
