Sorry Kevin, but I completely disagree. Musicians need to spend a lot more time experiencing life and (especially for EDM producers) less time staring at a computer and clicking a mouse; otherwise, where is the inspiration for music going to come from?

Totally. Most of all, get a girlfriend if there's any chance at all. Think of her as a pet who takes your time. Dedicate time to her. After a couple of weeks traveling / doing something else with your girlie, you'll be itching to get back to your computer, tweaking those virtual knobs.

I've got it all in harmony, my girl only visits me 3-4 times a month (mostly weekends) because of her school in another city.

And atxbigballer1 comes hear, that's the main thing buddy bud.

I have a girlfriend who makes me want to do nothing but stay away from her and make music.

Sounds like you need a new girlfriend.

Just stop producing for a few weeks and I guarantee it will occupy less and less of your mind. Obviously you will want to occupy the free time you have doing something else enjoyable.

If making music is your life and more importantly, you are happy for making music to be your life, then by all means just keep at it all the time.

But if you actually want to live a life outside of music production and experience the world outside of sequencers, synths, mixdowns and latency, then trust me, take a complete break from it.

yeah thats another thing...ever since production has tooken a hold of me..i have lost interest in the entertainment that most people enjoy..such as movies..i havnt watched a mainstream film in a year or two..never seen the movie avatar..and only ones that i can sit myself thru are obscure independant films..or movies that ive already seen from a few years back, and as far as music goes..i only enjoy listening to stuff made from "hip" electronic acts from europe...if i turn on the radio ill go insane..

anyways what im trying to say ive lost interest in what most people my age "19" should be doing....i had alot of friends in high school, but i dont share the same interest as none of them anymore...and have since slowly drifted away.

Well, its kinda like this for me since 2001, when I started producing. I took some breaks sometimes when I was uninspired. I usually went outside clubbing. Had some vacation, played poker with my friends whatever. Though, the production was always there in some way. Either I just dreamed about it, when I went work in the morning, watched outside the window of the suburban and let my mind drift away, or I just read about stuff on the internet.

I just can say, my mind is into that for a long, long time. I dont work each day on songs, but most of the time I do something related to it, like testing a free plugin, reading articles, make some drumloops. I have a dedicated sound design day, where I just tweak my synths and save the patches like 5 hours or so :eyes:

Maybe, ask yourself, thats just your thing? When I started producing, I also lost interest in the most activities my friends did at this time, which was getting drunk, hip hop and videogames. In the end, I always liked to be a different and dedicate my time to something that I find to be most important to me. Music became a big part of my life and I dont regret all those hours I worked on getting better instead of getting outside.

Its a different thing if you dont like to spend so much time for it and you dont want to be so stucked to it in your mind. Just leave it for a while and get a xbox.
