I use wimMX and it's great in my opinion. this is my main source for alot of mp3. now about bitrates, what mp3 bitrate should i get into the habit of downloading? i mean obviously, if a song is 6 min long and the file is only 5MB, then i can already tell that the sound quality is going to be crap

but i go for file that are like for example tunes that are 6 min and the filesize is around 9-11 MB. is that ok?

up until now i didnt really pay attention to the bitrate if it's any important on downloading quality mp3s. please do give me some advice thanks

i forgot to ask about cd burner speed. the defaul im at right now is 1x maximum write speed

i can go up to 8x. is this going to affect the quality of the sound if i keep burning at 1x. i don't care much for time on burning i just want the best possible.
Ray_Finkle
anything 192+
192 is i guess decent quality. All the release groups use 192. but try and go with higher quality files. Sizewise? Uh...I'm not too sure man, but just look at the bit rate (it should show up)

And go ahead and burn at 8x. my burner does a max of 8x and it works perfectly fine.

yeah i can up my speed to 8x but i have been using 1x ever since. does that mean my past burns have crap quality or it doesn't make a difference?
Ray_Finkle
doesn't make a difference. My experiance is that the lower the speed, the less chance that your burn will screw up.
Aldrian
hey man you have been more than helpful to me. thanks a bunch.
Ray_Finkle
no prob man.
SmellsExcellent
IMO 128kb/s is just fine depending on the system youre listening to... i have 2 systems... on is a mid level denon/kef rig and the 128s sound fine on it but when i plop a cd burned from 128kb/s mp3s on my marants/paradigm rig i can tell that some quality is missing. 192 sound much better and even higher is better but not really noticeable unless you are an audiophile like me.

as far as burning goes, remember this: its all digital. The speed has no effect whatsoever on the quality of your cds, period. I burn at 40x and it is EXCATLY the same as a 1x burn... its he same as copying an mp3 file either from a HDD to another HDD or from a HDD to a FDD... one is much slower, but the file remains exactly the same.

cheers!

I burn my MP3 cd's at 12X, and they work fine on my DVD player with the MP3 decoder in them. I currently have a Plextor CD writer.

My old JVC CDRW was crap and it's quality was so poor that it wouldn't let me hear MP3s on the DVD player w/MP3 decoder.

I think it depends alot on your burner - if you have a good one (like a Plextor) you should not have a problem burning at high speeds.

ray how did i know u would post in this thread :P

anyways about the bitrate, it all depends on waht you are planning to lisen to the mp3s with. if you are using a discman with ty headphones or your crap computer speakers then 128 is fine, if u are using decent headphones/speakers you shuold be aiming for a minimum of 192

AND if you have a great sound setup i would sugest using either minimum CBR 256 kbps or VBR

also about the burner speed, it depends on how quick your computer is and how stressed it is. as long as your computer isnt working to hard it should be able to handle whatever ur max burn speed is
