DAMN! Sorry for the lateness of this review, as I've been slammed with work. I gotta say Mathias.....this set was tremendous. I will admit, upon starting to listen, for me personally, it started off slow, but as I've listened to the whole set, the beginning was amazing and complemented the rest of your set perfectly! It was a great start and build to what the rest of your set had in store. Minute 46:15 is where it really took off for me....SUCH a FUNKY track. I'm horrible with the trainspotting even though you put up the tracklist (HAHA), but from that time on, I couldn't get the set out of my headphones. I could really tell how thought out this set was....how much preparation had gone into it prior to you playing it and piecing it together. I really hate when people say that Ableton is not a way to DJ, because your set shows exactly how you can mix/fade/transitions songs/loops/choruses and make them all work together so well. Just because Ableton doesn't require everyone to 'beatmatch' you still just can't go into Ableton and expect to drop a bomb set because you warped everything correctly. I also really liked the amount of effects you used thru the set....not overkill. Just enough to heighten the vibe when needed. I could tell that you really have all of these tracks down, because you navigated thru every lil break, pause, and click like you produced them yourself. This was also easily seen when you added effects to these areas. I'm really upset that I missed this set live. Again I apologize for the delay in this review, but this was definitely a work of art, and I am so glad for your share. Your talent is amazing, and even though I am no James Holden, I think his comment of the best Ableton set was spot on. Cheers!
Highlights for me:
The buildup to 1:09:09 and then.....that underlying bassline with the echo over top......
1:28:43: That vocal: mesmerizing.....
1:45:10: The bassline and track I can hear you bringing so faintly. This track takes off when you have it completely in. ID please.
2:09:33: This transition to the new track is seamless. Funky ass !
I hope my review did you recording justice, because if you can't tell, I was VERY impressed. Back to my Ableton scenes I go....HAHA. Thanks again Mathias! |

No, I wasn't there, but I can't even begin to think how good it sounded. I was going off reviews, and given Mathias' setlists, I knew it would be a banger! |
