JaMarcus? What does this "Ja" stand for? And why were they wading if none of them could swim? Wasn't there a bridge nearby?

These questions need answers!

I wonder if I could legally change my name to a single number.

You could, like, change your name to sensei (since you're my wise sensei anyway) and - because the Japanese writing is beautiful and you can have more than one reading to the same word - you could write it as 千生, which means "a hundred lives" or 線性, which means "sex line".

I'm going to stick with the latter until you make up your mind.

Jamaica?

I'm guessing it's because they can't play madden when they're in water.

It isn't a prefix? Like, if you stretch it a bit, you can write my (sur)name is as "DeLira", which means "Of Lira" (It's actually "de Lira"). I believe the "De" in "DeKendrix" is the same, despite the fact that there's no reason to use it in English, much less in a first name. The "La" in "LaDarius" also makes some sense, though the gender is messed up (LeDarius would be grammatically correct).

So I'm not sure it's related to "Jamaica" or, as I initially believed, "Jamal".

That reminds me of this pic

Stop thinking like someone that knows something, drink 9-10 shots in fast succession and then try to think of something witty or clever to call your child that will make them a unique little snowflake.

'Ja' is the Rastafarian concept of 'God', the word itself often being of course reliant on the context it is mentioned in. Its use in most names is probably to denote that somebody is 'of' God, a child of this concept.
