Google - "Never be evil"

Code of Conduct

"Don't be evil." Googlers generally apply those words to how we serve our users. But "Don't be evil" is much more than that. Yes, it's about providing our users unbiased access to information, focusing on their needs and giving them the best products and services that we can. But it's also about doing the right thing more generally -- following the law, acting honorably and treating each other with respect.

How you guys feel about Google lately?
E2EK1EL
In the past, I've always tried to limit myself with using more Google products. I've had a strange feeling about them 3 years ago and feared they would turn evil very soon. I really love their products, but something felt wrong and their code of conduct of "Don't be evil" is creepy. Our data being stored on their servers the day we started using their products, is priceless. Even the US government wanted access to that data for their own purposes, during the famous court case. Without a doubt, Google is now the new Microsoft and "evil" might be a nicer term for what's being planned for the future.

Where'd you copy this from?

Interesting...

For sure dude, When the Facebook movie preview came out in the theaters, I kinda laughed ... but now I want to watch it.

I've watch "Download: The True Story of the Internet" last year and there was a ton of stuff I never knew about. Also has Google's history from start to "kinda" present.

Part 1: Browser Wars - The rise and fall of Netscape and its battle against Microsoft
Part 2: Search - The rise of Google and Yahoo
Part 3: Bubble - The dot.com crash of 2000 and the mainstays of the internet -- Amazon.com and Ebay
Part 4: People Power - Peer to peer technology, web2.0, and social networking

Cool thx.

Interesting thing is dot.coms are coming back (i.e social network sites)

Has everyone seen Pirates of Silicon Valley???

It's the story of Microsoft and Apple and it's a very good movie...

I hope you guys enjoy that doc as much as I did. Learning about the past is the key to the future, too bad history class wasn't filled with proper docs to keep our attention focused on the subject itself.

When I first started the doc, I was like "This dude is trying to be bad ass lol". After the 5 mins or so, that changed pretty quickly ... "Yo, that nigga is for real!" I'm horrible

The dot.com is not returning; it's part 4 of the doc ... Known as Web 2.0.

I wonder, are we entering Web 3.0 now? With mobile Internet + social networking + location base services?

All I can say is, the future is friendly and scary at the same time.

"Don't be evil......unless it makes you money" should be their actual slogan. Proponents of net neutrality for the longest time are now going in the opposite direction by teaming up with Verizon (or AT&T, forgot which).
