Irish duo Psycatron return to Christian Smith’s Tronic imprint this autumn with a new release entitled ‘Celestial Symphony’.
Psycatron, aka Paul Hamill and Dave Lievense, have chalked up an impressive list of releases since 2003, with tracks and remixes gracing Planet E, Simple, R&S and International Deejay Gigolo. A long standing DJ residency at Belfast’s infamous Stiff Kitten night and Hamill’s BBC Radio show in Northern Ireland has also resulted in the duo grabbing attention from far and wide for their abilities as DJs.
In keeping with previous releases, both tracks on this double-header are heavily electronic, Detroit-inspired melodic techno with a timeless feel. The A-side’s ‘Celestial Symphony’ version takes a looping bass/lead and uses a host of layering and filtering to add depth throughout. With the addition of classic strings stabs and held notes the track builds into an epic affair soaked with the sort of heady emotion Detroit’s finest are loved for.
The flipside’s ‘Celestial Circuits’ version builds on the a-side with heavier, nagging percussion and seemingly constant builds which result in a brutal yet beautiful piece of techno.
