To say Gareth Emery has had a good year would be a vast understatement. Over the past twelve months, the popularity and buzz surrounding the young Brit reached explosive proportions, culminating in him being voted no.9 in 2009’s definitive DJ Mag Top 100 poll: one of only a handful of DJs to crack the world’s top ten before the age of 30.

Was this down to producing pure club anthems like Exposure and Metropolis alongside stunning remixes for Armin van Buuren and Above & Beyond, all of which led to him spending more time at the top of Beatport’s trance chart than any other artist in ‘09? Maybe it was the launch of his new Garuda label and club night, responsible for selling out Manchester’s iconic Sankeys club four times in a row whilst releasing his critically acclaimed compilation ‘The Sound Of Garuda’. Or perhaps it was the sheer amount of people he played to, banking half a million air miles travelling to over one hundred gigs at some of the world’s finest clubs and festivals. Whatever the reason, one thing is for certain: he’s on fire like never before.

Can't pass up on Gareth, but Alain Octaivo put me to sleep the past few times I saw him. I'd much rather prefer John Beaver or Bjorn Niclas to open.

I always vote Bjorn, every time i see him i am happy with his entire set. Alain is great, just not really the style of music that gets me going.

I'll be going at a much different pace and vibe for the next 2 months, because of the guests I'll be opening up for

I've been spending this past year more in the studio in addition to an intense work schedule. Sometimes I work 30+ hours straight starting at 5/6am every morning. It's not an excuse, but it definitely affects the focus of the DJ element of my life, especially when: for example I'm set to open for someone like Jeff Mills next Armin Van Buuren, then Mark Farina. So my music range and focus moves around a lot.

Anyhow point is I have had way too many distractions, so I've been building a foundation that allows me to focus on music more, which will translate to better sets.

Can't please them all (unless you're someone who loves it all) I'm assuming my sets from Ferry, Gareth and ATB won't be enjoyed by many of the hardcore house and techno heads here in SF :D

Hopefully you'll enjoy future sets :)
